Amen zilla,
And thanks for your aid in trying to explain these concepts to Reno. You know it took me many years of agnosticism to clear my mind of Mormonism before I could read the Bible. I hope it doesn’t take Reno as long.
Unfortunately, your journey into agnosticism is not uncommon among those who leave mormonism. There are too many atheists out there due to mormon brainwashing. Reno would benefit from you experience.

You aren’t alone CC.
It isn’t what we don’t know that trips us up
on our journey to the grace of God. It is often
what we were taught that isn’t so.
I had to unlearn what I’d been taught in a ritualistic
church before I could understand grace apart from works.
And as you wrote, works are the fruit of the life of
Christ flowing through us - not something we do to
gain merit.
In the case of mormonism, you have to wipe the slate
clean. It is so convoluted that there isn’t a point
of commonality with Christianity to start with.
I feel for those who are trapped in it and those who
have left in disgust and don’t want to trust again.
Sometimes it takes time. I’m glad you came to God
after escaping.
best,
ampu
Amen!
But; if it does, at least, in the end, he'll be on the Narrow road into the City of GOD.
Revelation 21:2
I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.
