So when there are behaviors changes that is contrary to the Church one of the signs of apostatizing is by not paying tithes.

____________________________________________

Actually in this day and timed, if someone sdidnt pay tithes the first consideration would have to be that they got laid off...

Another might be large medical bills, etc...

Why would it have to be some type of sin that would prevent a person from paying tithes...

At the church I attend, that person would get bags of groceries, and help, not unfounded accusations...

***

For those LDS who fell on hard times they can always able go the bishop storehouse and receive assistance (again it is the honor system.)

Paying a full tithe is a privilege, an honor, and I actually believe what the Bible says about it.

Providing in the Lord's Way:

The real long term objective of the Welfare Plan
is the building of character in the members of the Church,
givers and receivers, rescuing all that is finest down deep
inside of them, and bringing to flower and fruitage
the latent richness of the spirit, which after all is the mission
and purpose and reason for being of this Church.

Resty,

did you read my # 186 ???

John Hyde was a mormon elder who lived in Salt Lake City and wrote about the tithing practices of the mormons in the 1850s...

Brigham Young intended for those practices to continue forever...

In this respect it (tithing) is as essential as faith in God, as repentance of sin, as baptism for the remission of sin, or as the laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. 4 Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed. (1939), 225.

“Verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming” (D&C 64:23).

So if the above are taught to lds then the following would also be true: The lds prophets teach that tithing is essential for salvation. Which would also imply or one could infer extortion in the settlement meetings.

WOW

That makes one wonder at the meaning behind these scriptures from the Christian Bible...

Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 19:21-23

Nothing there about tithing to the Morg...Jesus said to give the money to the poor not to the coffers of the already rich to build silly temples..No “pay tithes and get saved” there

Peter answered: “May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! Acts 8:20

OOOOOOOOOOOOO Nothing from God can be bought with money...and that would include salvation...

Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. Matthew 23:23

Gollies, Jesus Himself said that paying the tithe gains you nothing...that God requires something else other than the tithe...Does Jesus know that the mormon god thinks differently ??? While the God of the Bible wants us, the mormon god would just rather have our money...

You are correct. If you read their own words, the bishops and others say the tithe goes to building buildings(temples) as well as other stuffs.
I prefer the: ten tithing adults supports the pastor, twenty tithing adults the pastor, the facility, etc, thirty the pastor the facility missions.....just goes on from there.
It takes allot of money going into the coffers to build the kinds of building lds have. I was surprised to learn that the “tithes” go to a centralized government structure and the they decide how much the local ward gets.
I still haven't gotten an answer as to why it is such a big deal that the local wards do not have any paid staff (the centralized government does however, and they do quite well).

While the God of the Bible wants us, the mormon god would just rather have our money...brilliant point.

Amazing isn’t it Saundra how the distorter tries to deceive others.

First Nephi

God told Lehi to look at the  ball and read the words written upon it. And when he read the words "he did fear and tremble exceedingly." 16:26

The pointers on the ball work according to the faith of its user. 16:28

And the words written on the ball change according to the faith of its user. 16:29

So Nephi found his way to the top of the mountain by following the instructions that were written on the ball. 16:30

Why that is difficult for you to comprehend I do not know.

Long exposure to MORMONism destroys logic cells in the brain.

Actually; the BIGGEST thing that leads to APOSTACY from MORMONism is DOUBT about certain things the Church does.

I hope there are no small, nagging doubts that ever cross MORMON member's minds about LDSism - they could be in GREAT danger!

I have heard RUMORS about this system.

Is it true that when the members get back on their feet, they have to PAY BACK what they had received during hard times?

I actually believe what the Bible says about it.

Just what DOES your church tell you the 'bible' says about it?

Gross?

Net?

After expenses?

Full tithe... is that like 100% pregnant?

The LDS is and always has been at the very least a numbers racket.

You could see it in an exchange I just recently had with one of there “new” posters about the fact that the sheer numbers of members, the “fruit” (which I bet also means the money) proves the Smith was a prophet, not the Deuteronomy test about accuracy.

You can see it in the emphasis on tithing and the fact that there is an “Accounting” to get to see Smith and then Christ getting to heaven.

You can see it in the fact that gleefully accepting gold dental work form the poor uneducated masses to build a temple the very poor themselves will doubtfully ever see the inside of.

You can see it every where in all they do. Sad really, and no where near what the mission should be for a church that bears the name of the man who told us to go out and give all we have to the poor...
