My review of the Kennedy funeral Mass (Vanity)

OK, so I watched it.

I was very pleased that Sean Cardinal O'Malley did not celebrate, or even concelebrate the Mass. He just attended it.

I did not see too many overt abuses during the Mass.

I was relieved to see that the Bamster did not even attempt to receive. Unfortunately, Fox panned away so I was denied the opportunity to be outraged at the sight of any of the other Dhim pols receiving.

The homily was gushing, but most homilies at funeral Masses are, so I can't say all that much about it.

The prayers of the faithful were nothing but disgusting political advertisements for a progressive agenda. They were composed and read by Kennedy folks, though, so I fault them for that lack of prudence.

I was rather disturbed by the lack of appropriate honors given by Kennedy clansmen at the altar (no bowing before the altar when entering the Sanctuary by any of them)

And of course, the eulogies. Inappropriate at a funeral Mass.

This review is given without regard to Kennedy's positions that put him in opposition to the Church. It is intended just as a snarky technical review of the Mass, itself. There has already been plenty of discussion on this and will be plenty of discussion in the future.

So, while I would have preferred the Church insisting that any funeral merely be a closed, family affair, it wasn't all that bad.

It should not be a televised event. Everything else is just small potatoes.

Turning it into a nationally televised event makes it a public scandal.

Eulogies by family are now an acceptable part of funeral masses. My wife did so for her father last year. With the Kennedy clan such performance may go overboard, but the concept of eulogy is acceptable.

The use of the Prayer of the Faithful bothers me. I am reminded of Cotton Bowl games 40 years ago where the invocation before the game was basically "Dear God let Texas win!" Seriously use of the prayer of the faithful for political outcome more than insinuates that Catholics who do not share the same political idea are not real Catholics, and that is unacceptable.

Much more appalling in this case was the presence of the Cardinal. O’Malley should not have been there. It is not enough that he did not celebrate or cocelebrate.

Thanks for the report. I couldn’t stand watching something like that.

I think that when Kennedy died, the Democrats hoped to make a big issue out of it. I think they were hoping for non-stop publicity like what they got when Michael Jackson died.

Instead, the chief fly in their ointment was that most people weren’t all that interested. It wasn’t as if this was someone really IMPORTANT, like Michael Jackson or Paris Hilton. So the ratings were bad, and they were forced to cut back on coverage.

Hopefully the same will be true for Teddy’s “legacy,” and renaming Obamacare as Kennedycare will fail. I think it will.

The Basilica is beautiful

My folks are watching it, but I have no desire to.

All I can think of is the HYPOCRICY of the Kennedy clan and others in that beautiful Cathedral, at a Catholic Mass; in God's home and with so many are pro-abortionists or pro-choicers in attendance. And Ted was one of them. It truly makes me ill. But I certainly am not the judge, I'm just a guy who chooses not to watch this particular event. The hypocrisy of it all makes me very sad.
