The Pope, as the leader of Christianity, should get off his cheeks and begin to rebuild his religion, if not the faith itself.

The rise of the unchurched is in inverse proportion to the decline of American society.

"Despite a small proportion (1.6 percent) of Americans calling themselves atheist or agnostic, a review of stated beliefs shows that 12 percent are deistic (believe in a higher power but not a personal God), and 12 percent are atheist (no God) or agnostic (unsure)." No wait, what?

There are two trends noted here that have been going on for at least the last twenty years. First, the more liberal a denomination is, the faster it declines in membership. Liberal mainline Protestant denominations are dying, which is ironic since they pride themselves on tolerance and acceptance.
Secondly, the rise of neo-atheism or militant atheism has greatly increased over the last ten years. Agnosticism is Atheism by default. With the increase of single parent homes and through the secularistic indoctrination in public schools, it is only going to get worse.
The center of Christianity is no longer the northern hemisphere. It is growing by leaps and bounds south of the equator. Most of the growth in the Roman Catholic Church in America is because of the immigration from Latin American countries.
