I was surprised about California Catholicism — until I remembered the concentration of Hispanics. Are all those California Catholics really on board with the homosexual/abortion agenda? Given the success of Proposition 8, I guess not.

Speaking as someone who spent two years in Seattle, I am NOT surprised by the findings on the number of non-religious in the Pacific Northwest. This has also been the case historically.

As a native of New York state, I am surprised that the percentage isn't higher in the tri-state area. I find it to be the case that many people who are non-religious still identify as "Catholic" or "Jewish" out of some need to be affiliated with something culturally.
