To me, as the priest invokes the Holy Spirit and makes the Sign of the Cross over the bread and wine, the epiclesis is one of the most solemn moments of the Mass. I am always awed.

Very useful Wiki article is Epiclesis

This is one of the areas where the reforms of the Second Vatican Council were salutary.
