Rome, Italy, May 20, 2009 / 06:24 pm (CNA).- The Editor-in-chief of the Vatican newspaper, LOsservatore Romano explained today to Paulo Rodari, a Vatican analyst for the daily Il Riformista, that President Barack Obamas speech to graduates of Notre Dame was very respectful and that he is not a pro-abortion president.
In the interview with Rodari, Editor-in-chief Gian Maria Vian discussed his thoughts on President Obama at the University of Notre Dame. Obama has not upset the world, he said. His speech at Notre Dame has been respectful toward every position. He tried to engage the debate stepping out from every ideological position and outside every confrontational mentality. To this extent his speech is to be appreciated.
Vian continued, Let me be clear, LOsservatore stands where the American bishops are: we consider abortion a disaster. We must promote, always and at every level a culture of life.
What I want to stress is that yesterday, on this precise and very delicate issue, the President said that the approval of the new law on abortion is not a priority of his administration. The fact that he said that is very reassuring to me. It also underlines my own clear belief: Obama is not a pro-abortion president, he told Rodari.
Continuing the interview, Rodari stressed that L' Osservatore Romano ran two different stories on the same issue, one positive about Obama's speech at Notre Dame, the other extremely critical about his embryonic stem cell research position which quoted the concerns of the USCCB.
Vian answered: This is our policy, the way we inform. If a national bishops conference says something, we report it. However, she continued, it is appropriate to present other perspectives to the readers so they can accurately judge "international information.
According to Rodari, "the words of Vian are important. Because they speak about a confrontation between Obama and the Catholic Church which for now seems to be limited mainly among part of the American episcopate. A confrontation that the Holy See neither approves nor disapproves. Simply observes."

So, what would he do differently if he where a pro-abortion candidate?
What... he prefers infanticide?
Is this the tactics of the suck up? The Catholic Church had better tread carefully. Black hole ahead.
Somewhat gullible, isn’t he?
Did they instead focus on the fact he is pro-infanticide?
Disgraceful! The Catholic Church is in deep trouble.
What an idiot. How about that embryo stem cell research executive order, who did that come from?
Prove it and elect a pro-life Supreme Court Justice,
Abortion is MURDER!
Yeesh
I can’t believe I am going to post this...but my first thought...’what a suck up move to get Barry to visit the Vatican.’
Maybe, instead of selling out their Catholic values...they can invite a real rock star...lets say Ozzie Osbourne instead. At least the OzMan opennly admits he is the Prince of Darkness...
The Catholic Church is in no trouble at all and they know it
The same people who looked away from the millions in church funds that were given as a result of pedophile priests will continue to contribute to a church that refuses to take action against pro abortion members like Kennedy and Pelosi.
When Catholics refuse to contribute to the church because of its hypocritical stance... well I guess will never find out will we.
I think that is happening and will get worse. They are and will be in the same "throw our principles overboard" boat as RINO's. Eventually it will probably get so weak and decentralized that the individual parishes (instead of just the Catholic Universities ;-) will make policy.

It sounds like Vian didn't just drink the Obama Kool Aid, he got his head stuck in the pitcher trying to get the last few drops.
The Vatican didn't elect Obozo, America did. I'd say we're in much deeper trouble.
Do you apply the same standards to your income taxes? I ask because (a) the United States government is now in the business of aiding and abetting the murder of children, not merely their sexual abuse -- and is in fact proud of it; and (b) if you want to talk foolish and/or evil, let's just take a look at Congress.
Considering the other gaffes coming from the editorial board of this paper I say a thorough house cleaning are in order.
