Well, then, begin your explaination. First question: are rapists and thieves “traitors”, or are they “heresiarchs” (those being the only two categories Chesterton described as legitimately punishable without oppression and ignominy)?

Well, then, begin your explaination.

I'll refrain. It would be an utter waste of my time to try to explain Chesterton's point to someone so deeply intellectually dishonest. If you're truly interested, go read The Man Who Was Thursday.

After a certain point you’re no longer talking about history, just propaganda.

I agree. As others have said, if the Galileo event hadn't happened, enemies of the Church would have had to make it up.

It’s not enough to have mathematical evidence for one model in science. One must also disconfirm other models, as Karl Popper has noted. Neither Copernicus nor Galileo had accomplish that as yet.

Galileo for all his brilliance was also an egotist who caused his own problems with his attitude, not his science.

Exactly. He was a scientific genius, but politically and socially, he was retarded. In any other society at the time, his attitude toward the ruling elite would have gotten him a slow and agonizing execution.

When he would not he was excommunicated...

The article is elaborating why what you were taught is an over-simplication and unfairly suggests the Church was anti-science, when in actuality the Church provided the foundation for sciencce as we know it.

So what would you call him ???

Aristotle was a monotheist. Pagans are polytheistic.

>>> The current Episcopal Bishop of LA, Jon Bruno, with whom I was in seminary, claims to descend from that Bruno. <<<

As far as I know, Bruno never married (he was still a priest when he died, although in later years he was often refused the right to take sacrament).

Is John Bruno claiming to be descended from a bastard? What genealogical proof does he provide?

This was an idle conversation at Seminary a million years ago. I didn’t ask for confirmation.

Aha. Sorry, it’s just that I’ve read a bit about Bruno and never gleaned any hint that he’d fathered a child.

No problem,Poe: Maybe it was that he a Giordano shared a common ancestor. or maybe it was unsubstantiated family legend. Who knows?

Anyway, I so sorry to see my former acquaintance so deeply in the tank for the libertine modernist agenda.Bleah.
