Fargo bishop going on national TV to denounce Obama at Notre Dame [Fox News w/Greta]
Star Tribune ^ | Last update: May 13, 2009 - 9:55 AM | PAUL WALSH, Star Tribune

Fargo's Roman Catholic bishop is taking a national television platform and to denounce President Obama's prominent role in the University of Notre Dame's commencement this weekend.

Bishop Samuel J. Aquila will appear Thursday at about 9:30 p.m. on FOX News' "On the Record, with Greta Van Susteren." Aquila will be interviewed for about five minutes while he is in Chicago for a conference on spirituality, said Fargo Diocese spokeswoman Tanya Watterud.

Aquila joined others in opposition to Obama speaking at Sunday's commencement and receiving an honorary doctorate degree when he wrote a letter early last month to the Rev. John Jenkins, Notre Dame's president.

In that letter, Aquila said the invitation to Obama "diminishes the reputation of Notre Dame and makes one wonder what its mission truly is."

The letter to Jenkins continued: "Even though President Obama is not Catholic, he clearly rejects the truth about human dignity through his constant support of a so called 'right to abortion.' He also tolerates the inexcusable act of letting aborted children die who are born alive. He promotes an intrinsic evil which must always be resisted by a just and civil society."

At least 55 bishops have publicly denounced or questioned Notre Dame's invitation to Obama in recent weeks.

The nation's flagship Catholic university's honoring of a politician whose abortion rights record clashes with a fundamental church teaching has triggered a reaction among the nation's Catholic bishops that is remarkable in scope and tone, church observers say.

“A brief last minute update on the Notre Dame- Obama scandal. We are not at liberty to release details, but it appears that events are taking shape aimed at correcting the abuses at Notre Dame. These plans may include the cancelling of Obama’s appearance at the commencement.”

I also received an email notification from RealCatholicTV saying:

“Dear Friend of RealCatholicTV.com,

We are writing to you with a very urgent request – for prayers!

Events are moving very quickly in the Catholic Church and – while we are
not at liberty to disclose the full details – we have been asked to

Does Notre Dame own a hospital? Because if they do, Obama is going to use FOCA and Socialized Medicine to seize it.

Good for Bishop Samuel J. Aquila! Good for anyone who takes their religion seriously. Even if it means the vile state church will descend on them with all manner of insults.

One of my junior high school teachers used to preach "people who won't stand for something will fall for anything." She was right.

Please, Lord, let Obama be cancelled!

At this point, does Notre Dame really want to deny 0bama center stage and incur his wrath? All it takes would be for him to tell those Hamas “refuges” he’s bringing over here for over $3 Billion, isn’t it?, that they will live outside ND’s grounds.

0bama doesn’t have the emotional ability to think of others. It’s ALL about him and if you cross him . . . be prepared for the fall out because it will happen and it won’t be nice.

I really do think that Father Jenkins will lose his job.

My suggestion for a replacement is Mary Ann Glendon! LOL!

Does ND get ANY money from the Catholic church? If so, why? Surely those in control of this institution have rules and if their rules are broken there must be a penalty for such behavior? Shut off the money! If all they do is become “deeply disturbed” by this, then that’s just another church going “lib soft” (like the Episcopal church which I WAS a member of).

I guess I should show a little more respect than calling a preacher a jerk. Let me just say the misguided president of ND should be removed ASAP.

Their money comes from alumni donors, bequests, endowments and foundations. I don’t think they get any money from Church structures as such.
