Statement by Father John Jenkins on the Laetare Medal... and that's it.
The following statement from Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., president of the University of Notre Dame, is in response to the decision by Mary Ann Glendon to decline acceptance of the Universitys Laetare Medal:
We are, of course, disappointed that Professor Glendon has made this decision. It is our intention to award the Laetare Medal to another deserving recipient, and we will make that announcement as soon as possible. (University of Notre Dame Office of News & Information)

President Obama is disappointed by former Ambassador Mary Glendons decision, but he looks forward to delivering an inclusive and respectful speech at the Notre Dame graduation, a school with a rich history of fostering the exchange of ideas. While he is honored to have the support of millions of people of all faiths, he does not govern with the expectation that everyone sees eye to eye with him on every position, and the spirit of debate and healthy disagreement on important issues is part of what he loves about this country.

The power to divide Catholics and expand the slaughter of the unborn are just a couple of things this Imposter President loves about this country.
Remarkable how closely the Bishops of the United States in the crisis which is the reign of Obama resemble the Bishops of England in the reign of Henry VIII.
And our bozos aren’t even remotely threatened with the Tower or martyrdom!
Different source, different title, different author.
So?
STHU
Quit your whining.
Last year’s Laetare recipient was Martin Sheen. Gives you an idea who they’ll get to fill in.
I think this objection is ... obtuse.
Why do you think those "declarations of men" were made in the first place? I'll help: they were made to prohibit Catholic colleges from honoring persons who promoted abortion, homosexual perversion, and other grave offenses against the law of God ...
AS WRITTEN IN THE BIBLE
I believe that God can and will forgive all such evil.
The thing that my soul weeps about is the failure to pray for the American bishops to interceed.
48 bishops have spoken out about Father-President Jenkin's invitation to President Obama to speak at Notre Dame's commencement.
Those of us who know, must pray for the bishops.
Now.
Unceasingly.
LOL ! Why Not?
Public acceptance and praise from the world of liberal academics.
Also, many big ND donors are Fat Cats from Chicago. "Fat Cats from Chicago" means they're close to the Daley machine. The Daley machine is Obama.
Wouldn’t you just love to accept an award that was first offered to and rejected by another?
You got that right, NY!
a school with a rich history of fostering the exchange of ideas.
Imagine that. Very nervy. In this case the exchange of ideas involves someone who opposes core ideals of the other, and ND seems okay with helping them foster that opposition. Wow.
Campion: "Public acceptance and praise from the world of liberal academics.
"Also, many big ND donors are Fat Cats from Chicago. "Fat Cats from Chicago" means they're close to the Daley machine. The Daley machine is Obama."
Yes. I was foolishly assuming that Fr. Jenkins was under coercion of some sort, but he's just venal.
Incorrect. This is merely separating wheat from chaff.
Notice all the chaff with mitres on?
(1) How about Caroline Kennedy? She's already a 2-time loser, having been passed over for Senator and U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, and she has no particular qualifications for receiving a Catholic award --- so she's be a natural pick.
(2) Doug Kmiec! Doug Kmiec! Doug Kmiec! We've seen him sliding down the cliff for the past 2 - 3 years from being an upright and honest conservative and Catholic, to being an Oabama-cheering, logic-mangling, weasel-worded abortion supporter. This would perfectly complete his Gadarene descent.
"I see Dr. Mary Ann Glendon's refusal to provide cover for Notre Dame's inexcusable conferral of honors on a prominent pro-abortion politician as an application of Canon 209.1 "The Christian faithful, even in their own manner of acting, are always obliged to maintain communion with the Church", or of Canon 225.2 "According to each one's own condition, [laity] are also bound by a particular duty to imbue and perfect the order of temporal affairs with the spirit of the gospel and thus to give witness to Christ, especially in carrying out these same affairs and in exercising secular functions.
"The evil that ND President Jenkins and his Board of Trustees committed has, Deus laudetur, occasioned one of the most striking displays of episcopal fortitude I can remember, mobilized hundreds of thousands of American Catholics against another quiet surrender to the Culture of Death, and has effected notice to several once great Catholic institutions that it's time, finally, to decide where they stand."
The Laetare Medal is the moral equivalent to a leper. Anyone who touches it, gets soiled.
