Congressional Quarterly has posted a transcript of Fox News Sunday, including this exchange between Chris Wallace and Newt Gingrich about the former House speakers conversion to Catholicism:
WALLACE: Mr. Gingrich, you have been a Baptist most of your life, and last Sunday you converted to Catholicism. Why, sir?GINGRICH: Im not talking about this much publicly, but let me just say that I found over the course of the last decade, attending the basilica, meeting with Monsignor Rossi, reading the literature, that there was a peace in my soul and a sense of well being in the Catholic Church, and I found the mass of conversion last Sunday one of the most powerful moments of my life.
WALLACE: You have its no secret been married and divorced twice. Will you be able to participate fully in communion and all the other rites of the Catholic Church?
GINGRICH: Yes, we have done everything within the law of the church, following all of the rules of the church over the last 10 years. And its been a process. Its been a very long process and something which was deeply affected, in part, by Pope Benedict XVIs visit and the opportunity I had to sit in as you know, my wife, Calista, sings at the basilica every Sunday, and I was allowed as a spouse to be there as part of the vespers program when the pope came. Its been a long process.
WALLACE: And if I might ask, just briefly, what is it about the popes visit that led to this?
GINGRICH: I really believe, first of all, seeing the joy in his eyes, listening to his message, and I really believe that his basic statement, Christ our hope, is right. And I think much of whats wrong with our country and with the western world is a function of looking inside ourselves, not just looking at money or looking at our wallets.
Because that’s just not true, Ann. Jesus’s church, the universal (catholic) church is the BODY OF CHRIST.
“Who makes the choice in infant baptism? The infant certainly cant.”
Exactly. The parents start the process and, in Confirmation, the child completes the commitment. And by the way, the early Christian Church decided infant baptism was the way to go since nothing was more important than making sure a child’s soul belonged to Christ and was freed from original sin.
geesh....do you not know who the first Pope was....Peter......we can trace EVERY POPE since Peter......do you not know Church history? Or are you blinded by something? Really, have you never looked at the names of the Popes from Peter to Benedict?
You confirm that joke about the new arrival in Heaven being given the grand tour. He asks his guide "What's that area in the corner with the high wall around it?" The guide replies "That's for the Catholics. They like to think they're the only ones here."
Likewise. I’ve been busy recruiting for the Knights of Columbus but tonight I have a political meeting.
Note that the Greek translation is phoneticaly taken from e-sword, which is a non Catholic source.
Matt 27:50 50 30 But Jesus cried out again (Palon) in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit.
Matt 27:51 51 And behold, the veil of the sanctuary was torn in two from top (Anthon) to bottom. 31 The earth quaked, rocks were split,

John 3: 4 Nicodemus said to him, How can a person once grown old be born again (duetron secondly)? Surely he cannot reenter his mothers womb and be born again, can he?
John 3:31 15 The one who comes from above (Anthon) is above (Anthon) all. The one who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of earthly things. But the one who comes from heaven (is above all).
John 19:11 Jesus answered (him), You would have no power over me if it had not been given to you from above (Anthon). For this reason the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.
John 19:23 When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they took his clothes and divided them into four shares, a share for each soldier. They also took his tunic, but the tunic was seamless, woven in one piece from the top (Anthon) down.

Galatians 4:9 but now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again (Palon) Untranslated word Anthon (anew) to the weak and destitute elemental powers? Do you want to be slaves to them all over again (Palon)?
James 1: 17 all good giving and every perfect gift 9 is from above (Anthon), coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by change.
James 3: 15 Wisdom of this kind does not come down from above (Anthon) but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
James 3: 17 But the wisdom from above (Anthon) is first of all pure, then peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without inconstancy or insincerity.
Lets get this settled once and for all.
The Greek word Anothon occurs exactly 12 times in 12 verses in the New Testament.
The four words we are concerned with are Anothon which the Catholics contend means From above and the Fundies contend means again. The second word is Apanow, which means above/ over The third word is Palon- that really does mean again and Deuteron that means secondly.
If the protestants are correct when we look at each of these verses we should be able to substitute either word and have it make perfect sense. I have included several verses that use the word Palon to document the common use of that word.
You will also notice that in John 3:4 that Nicodemus does not use either Palon or Anothon, but rather Deuteron, meaning secondly or second.
Matt 27:50 But Jesus cried out again (Palon) in a loud voice, and gave up his spirit. Mat 27:50 o de ihsouv palin kraxav fwnh megalh afhken to pneuma

Conclusion: The only reasonable definition of the word Anthon is From above/ from the source or beginning, There is a perfectly good word for again but, neither Nicodemus, or Jesus use that word, instead Nicodemus uses Deuteron.
As pointed out by Maggie and several others Nicodemus apparent confusion results from Jesus use of the word Born not From above Anothon
Verga
YOU believe the first Pope was Peter. We do not. Jesus was talking about himself being the ROCK. Nobody else is every called the rock in scripture but him. I don’t think I’m the one who is blinded.
Well, Melian, don’t depend on baptism for your salvation.
“Well, Melian, dont depend on baptism for your salvation.”
Like St. Paul, I work on my salvation every day. I am baptized; I believe in Christ; I know He is my Savior; I believe every word He spoke; I try to emulate His example and do what He asks of me; I celebrate the Eucharist as He asked; and I am a Catholic. No Catholic depends on Baptism for salvation.
I’ve said this before: you seem critical of Catholics because of things you’ve heard about us that are completely erroneous. We love Jesus and His word as much as you do. I invite you to do some independent, objective research of your own and you will see this is true.
OK....so who was the first POPE? You MUST have an answer since you will not admit to Peter being the first Pope. You DO know that Peter /Petra is the word for ROCK...or maybe you don’t.
I thought you people ONLY believe the Bible, but you sure pick and choose what you want to believe.
I'm guessing you don't belong to a Church...right?
Don’t comment on something you cannot possibly fathom. I became a Baptist at 15, but somehow the Baptist church couldn’t fullfill me. After raising two children Catholic, I found my home. I was received into the Catholic church Easter, 1994. The Baptist church made me feel scared and belittled. The Catholic Church gives me peace, so I can make it through another week, with the help of Jesus. Go somewhere else and complain.
Ann;
***OK....so who was the first POPE? You MUST have an answer since you will not admit to Peter being the first Pope. You DO know that Peter /Petra is the word for ROCK...or maybe you don’t. Ever wonder WHY Jesus changed’s Peter’s name, SIMON to PETER if HE wasn’t the ROCk that Jesus said...”You are Peter and upon this Rock I will build My Church”.
I thought you people ONLY believe the Bible, but you sure pick and choose what you want to believe.
I’m guessing you don’t belong to a Church...right?***
Mary is very earnest, but there are folks here that influence here that are of extreme influence.
Mary, if I may, has not quite grasped that True Bible Belief (R) is not the same as early Church Creeds and beliefs and is very open to heretical and apostate beliefs. I think that Mary will come home, but it will take some doing. Forgive me if I’m speaking out of line, Mary.
This y time he made the better decision.
Isaiah 51:1 "Listen to me, you who pursue justice, who seek the LORD; Look to the rock from which you were hewn, to the quarry from which you were digged;" In v. 2, we are told what is meant by line 1. "Look to Abraham, your father, and to Sarah, who gave you birth;" So, look to the rock from which you were hewn - 'look to Abraham'. He is the ancient 'father' of all the Israelites.
Is your Bible missing these verses?
1Pe 3:20 who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water. 1Pe 3:21 This prefigured baptism, which saves you now. It is not a removal of dirt from the body but an appeal to God for a clear conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
I have been a Christian since I was 30 years old, 40 years now. I still maintain Jesus was talking about HIMSELF when He said he would build the church on THIS rock, HIMSELF. Peter was a pebble, Jesus was the rock.
I have gone to church faithfully since I was a child.
Ok....What Churche denomination....and WHO was the first POPE? There was a first Pope...you say it was NOT Peter, so who was it??
It is interesting that most Baptist’s and other Christian sects are unaware of the ‘theology’ of the Catholic Church. So many truly brilliant minds find Catholic theology the most spiritual and true way to Christ.
The Catholic Church is NOT the wayward priests, bishops, etc., any more than fundamental Christianity is the Swaggerts, the Haggards, or the Tammy Faye’s.
