I didn't know Harpers Ferry was in South Carolina: On October 16, 1859, the radical abolitionist John Brown led a group of 21 men in a raid on the Arsenal...John Brown's men were quickly pinned down by local citizens and militia, and forced to take refuge in the engine house adjacent to the armory...The Secretary of War asked for the assistance of the Navy Department for a unit of United States Marines, the nearest troops. [6] Lieutenant Israel Greene was ordered to take a force of 86 Marines to the town. In need of an officer to lead the expedition, U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonel Robert E. Lee was found on leave nearby and was assigned as commander along with Lieutenant J. E. B. Stuart as his aide-de-camp. The whole contingent arrived by train on October 18, and after negotiation failed, they stormed the fire house and captured most of the raiders, killing a few and suffering a single casualty themselves. Brown was tried for treason against the state of Virginia, convicted, and hanged in nearby Charles Town. Starry's testimony was integral to his conviction. Following the prosecution (by Andrew Hunter), "John Brown captured the attention of the nation like no other abolitionist or slave owner before or since." The Marines returned to their barracks and Colonel Lee returned to finish his leave. The raid was a catalyst for the Civil War...

Gee, if he were predicting that the coming of a great civil war was out of South Carolina, I’d be impressed. Instead, he’s predicting that troubles in South Carolina will presage the coming of Christ... which just means that he reads the signs of the times enough to con people and appeal to their angst. Seems he predicted the civil war would be the destruction of the entire Earth, wherein those he considered the demonic races (that is, blacks) would rise up an afflict those he considered the blessed race (that is, whites).

12 I prophesy, in the name of the Lord God, that the commencement of the adifficulties which will cause much bloodshed previous to the coming of the Son of Man will be in South Carolina....and this is referring too?
I prophesy the moon will reflect the sun's blistering brilliance after it's fire falls gently in the west each night.
Obama supporters aren't even hoodwinked enough to think JS was a prophet! But, I guess I asked and you at least tried to show!

Pretty weak. By 1843, it was pretty common knowledge that South Carolina was the real hot-button region over southern grievances. The biggest surprise to contemporary analysts would be that it wound up taking over 15 years to blow up.
Are we supposed to ignore the rest of this chapter?
13 It may probably arise through the slave question. This a voice declared to me, while I was praying earnestly on the subject, December 25th, 1832.
It "may probably?" Pretty wishy-washy for a divine declaration.
15 Joseph, my son, if thou livest until thou art eighty-five years old, thou shalt see the face of the Son of Man ; therefore alet this suffice, and trouble me no more on this matter.
Since Joseph Smith was born in 1805, late December, 1890 was a pretty important date. Exactly when and where did Christ return? Apparently, Christ returned in all his glory and no one (including the Mormons) noticed.
