I was thinking of attending there worship. I have admired many of thier teachings on Sabbath Observance Healthy Living, Chatiable Giving and Prophetic teachings. However I am not sure if all thier doctrine is sound.
I understand Ellen G White is the founder of this church In brief, she was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world.
During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender.
Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams.
Who are the Apostate Churches today? can they easily be recognized?. It is simple to recognize apostate teachings, such as acceptance of homosexuality or teaching another way of salvation other than Jesus Christ, but is there additional teachings of apostate we should be looking for?...If we are not observing the Saturday Sabbath are we apostate? Thoughts on this?
JW’s will run if you ask to pray with them in the name of Jesus
But seriously - my wife tried the previous stunt of praying in Jesus name- ....and did they get flummoxed - they responded by saying they pray to God Jehovah......on that, they turned heel and left
That is untrue, SDA baptisms are Trinitarian and are accepted as valid baptisms by the Catholic Church. The JW’s are not valid.
White is a false prophet.
Sorry, you can not justify most of what she wrote, and much of what she wrote was stolen from the Mormons or someone else.
The Bible was INSPIRED by God, but you should not take all of it literally.
And, if you want to argue with a Catholic about literal interpretations, don't forget, we DO take Jesus literally, when He told us “This is my body” and “This is my blood” at the last supper.
He also told us, “Do this in memory of me.”
I’ve made the Sign of the Cross in front of them at the door and asked them to come in and listen to my information about my church — then I will listen to their information.
**Thats more than 1800 years AFTER Jesus established His Church. What else does someone really need to know? **
Right on!
The one, holy, Catholic and apostolic Church. The first Church!
Ouch — my eys!
sorry but I disagree.
a reasonable person acquainted with the clear instructions of the 10 commandments alone can discern an apostate church in today's world.
don't need God to explain it....again.
simpler than all that even...any Christian Church denies Christ is the son of God sent here to die for our sins is apostate.
it ain't rocket science
Most SDA folks I’ve known were devout Christians.
a bit different but believers
Actually, Walter Martin never included Seventh Day Adventism as a cult. Although he considered some of their teachings as wrong and unbiblical and openly criticized teachings such as mandatory sabbath observance, the investigative judgment, etc., on the central doctrines of the faith (the Trinity, the virgin birth of Christ, the resurrection, etc.) he considered them to be right on.
He wrote a whole book on the SDA church called “The Truth about Seventh Day Adventism” which marked his divergence from those who call them a cult.
I worked for Martin’s organization, Christian Research Institute, for four years when I first got out of college in 1966. I knew him well.
Yes- I have 3 but my youngest is 20. I was in a bad accident 2 years ago and I got hooked on 2 TV shows while I was laid up - Sponge Bob Squarepants and The Sopranos. I don’t know what that says about my taste, but in my defense I was on morphine:)
I have no issue with that
My husband’s grandparents were SDA, they had 7 children, 6 of whom swore off of any kind of organized religion and left home as soon as they could, most never to return and they blame it on the religion.
I think any religion that basically requires you to be seperate from the rest of the world is a cult because it’s beliefs are not supportable. It is like all religions that are based on 1 or 2 people’s interpretation of a few Bible verses.
Thank you for correcting my misinformation. I was working from a rather faulty memory.
Interesting notion. I am trying to wrap my mind around the Ten Commandments as guidelines for discerning apostate churches. Since the Ten Commandments deal with individual behavior of men and women in their relationships to the Lord and to each other, are you applying those guidelines to churches as organizations or to their leaders, or both? And does that make Jews apostate or is it just applied to Christian churches? I guess I can envision an organization or person who follows the Ten Commandments as well as anyone can, still qualify as apostate because of teachings and maybe even behavior extraneous to the Ten Commandments. The Savior certainly spent a lot of time during His ministry teaching a higher standard than that sort of “Do not” behavior in the Ten Commandments. He taught that it wasn’t enough to just honor the Lord, or not hurt our fellowmen. I believe He upped the standard to love for God and even our enemies. But perhaps I am misunderstanding your point. I certainly don’t mean to do so.
Incidentally, I didn’t address the Christian/Non-Christian apostate matter because I believed the church she was considering was Christian, though some consider it a cult I guess. And I still believe that the combination of scripture and prayer is the best means to discern our course in life, including choice of religious organization.

for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction,
and there are many who enter through it.
“As a Catholic I can tell you that my church respects the Baptism of nearly every other Christian Faith. We do NOT accept the 7th Day Adventist or Jehovah Baptisms.”
