Earlier this week the New York Times dropped the news that Newt Gingrich will soon become Catholic (which I had rumored before), and I blogged about it. I can now add some more details. Mr. Gingrich has regularly been seen attending Mass at the National Shrine here in Washington DC (inculding once by yours truly). He'll be entering the Church on Sunday, March 29th in DC.

Ping:
I think he made his conversion to an inside the beltway big government liberal a long time ago.
Best wishes to Mr. Gingrich and his family.
I guess he is not planning any more divorces.
I always say “WOW!” when I hear of thoughtful people I respect, who, after much deliberation later in life, decide to adopt the Catholic faith. It makes me pleased.
I hear the Queen of England receives Catholic communion in secret because of the row it would cause if her people knew. These two churches should be reunited.
I guess you and I missed the memo: for some reason, we’re supposed to be critical, not pleased.
Which family? The guy has had three wives.
Which family ?
He has had 3 wives.
Don't you feel so "left out"?
Oh, I missed the “flat joke everyone has to make” memo, too. I need to go check my settings; maybe the catz have been making adjustments again.
There is no such thing as a secret-agent Christian.
If that is true, it reflects poorly on the Roman
Catholic church.
Wow, I guess that either great minds think (post?)
alike, or I am not very original!
I behind the times, behind the fashion curve, perhaps behind the 8-ball ... but ahead in the breeer stakes!
And also can’t tpye worth a darn today.
I felt that way when I heard that Tony Snow had made the conversion.
Don’t you know that no TRUE Freeper has ever been divorced?
How about those Catacombs?
That’s what I was thinking. I wonder if he’ll get any annulled now that he’s becoming a Catholic, like our good friend John F’n Kerry.
At least, we’ll have one Catholic politician who is actually pro-choice. Seems like all of our prominent Catholic politicians are all pro-death.
Wait, Newt doesn’t actually hold elected office. D’oh.
