Well, it appears the Anglican Church which was founded on the subject of sex (Henry VIII’s desire to get a divorce and marry again) will also disintegrate because of sex (the status of homosexuals within the church membership and hierarchy). The full circle of history comes around.
As Ernest Hemingway said to his second wife whom he had been fooling around with during his first marriage, when he wanted to divorce her and once again was engaged in yet another affair, “you live by the sword, you die by the sword.” You start a church based on sex, your church can now die based on sex.
The Anglican Church as we know it is more of a product of the Elizabethan Settlement than Henry VIII’s romps. My point is that between O’Connor and Williams, the entire Tudor family- Henry, Henry, Edward, Mary and Elizabeth- are doing spinning like tops.
Personally, I find Henry VIII to be a very intriguing fellow. Theologically, he was very conservative- he despised Lutheranism. In regards to his marriage, he only asked that he be granted what the Pope routinely granted to the royal families of Europe (including his own).
