Pakistani Muslim mob demands death for Christian activist accused of ‘blasphemy’

By Dan Wooding and Sheraz Khurram Khan Special to ASSIST News Service

RAWALPINDI, PAKISTAN (ANS) -- In an apparent attempt to influence court proceedings, a huge Muslim mob gathered outside a court in Rawalpindi on Friday, January 30, as it heard the case of Hector Aleem, a Christian activist, who was arrested on January 22 under Pakistan’s most abused blasphemy laws.

Muslim protesters shouted slogans against Hector Aleem and demanded that the accused be given death sentence. A January 27 court hearing also drew angry Muslims who protested outside the court.

ANS has learnt that some hard-line Muslims filed an application with the Chairman of Rawalpindi Bar Association against Malik Asif Touseef, the defense counsel of Hector Aleem. The application said that neither Malik nor any other lawyer should be allowed to defend Hector since he had committed alleged “blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.” It is alleged that he sent a “blasphemous” text from his cell phone.

pLocal Police, who are apparently under intense pressure from radical Muslims have extended Hector’s remand.

Joseph Francis, National Director of Centre for Legal Aid, Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) has urged the Christians across the world to pray for release of Hector Aleem.

The court has fixed February 2 as the next date of a hearing of the case.

Muslim mob demands death for...

Fill in the blanks. Slow cartoon day? Or does some girl want an education. Christianity is not the cause of their degenerate blood lust. It has been a stopgap measure in the past. Thankfully. These people need to be stopped. Civilization as we know it hangs in the balance.

this type of extremism is not dealt with by letters, tea or cookies.
I doubt Silly Putty is aware of what he’s dealing with because these people (and it can also be an islamic Gang with no party affiliation)and out for blood to prove a point and the message is : We don’t recognize your messenger and we aim to kill whomever at a whim of dissatisfaction- these groupies have nothing to lose at all, unfortunately.

Somehow it still amazes me that so many people think that you can co-exist with Islam.

The US aid package for Pakistan has lapsed, and the Senate will have to reconsider a $2 billion package over ten years. I believe there are better places to spend the money than throw it down the Pak rathole.

PAKISTAN: CHRISTIAN CHARGED WITH ‘BLASPHEMY’ FOR TEXT MESSAGE
COMPASS DIRECT News ^ | Thursday February 05, 2009 | n/a

ISTANBUL, February 5 (Compass Direct News) – More than 100 protestors last week surrounded a Pakistani courthouse and chanted death threats against a Punjabi Christian said to be framed for sending a “blasphemous” text message on his cell phone.

Rawalpindi police arrested Hector Aleem, 51, on Jan. 22 and detained him on charges of sending a text message that insulted the Islamic prophet Muhammad. At his Jan. 27 hearing at the Rawalpindi Sessions Court, crowds gathered and began shouting death threats.

His attorney, Malik Tafik, told Compass that a local man allegedly framed Aleem for the charges because Aleem has made legal challenges on behalf of Christians involved in a land dispute. Aleem directs a small agency that often defends the rights of Christians.
