How, exactly, is this the Catholic Church’s fault?

Our pastor took time during yesterday’s homily to request everyone who felt the urge to fill out cards which will be forwarded to our senators and house representatives. The cards voiced our opposition to FOCA.

He also commented that under no circumstance would a Catholic hospital perform an abortion, and that we would close those hospitals instead of committing murder within their walls.

It’s not the fault of the Catholic Church, but it’s only fairly recently that the average pastor or even average bishop has been very outspoken about abortion and the conflict with the State. Confusion has reigned among Catholics as a result, and that was why both Pelosi and Biden felt that they were perfectly within their rights to challenge the bishops and the teaching of the Church, and why they were even supported by many Catholics, obviously

I think the Priestly Pugilist is right. Wuerl - or whoever is responsible for a politician who is claiming to be a Catholic and claiming that abortion or even birth control are ok with the Church - has got to publicly excommunicate that person. These people are not real Catholics because they don’t accept the teaching of the Church. But the problem is, they are using the name “Catholic,” because of the simple fact that they were baptized in the Catholic Church, to do enormous harm.

The bishops have got to take the next step and exercise their disciplinary powers.

Because the bishops refuse to use puplic discipline to teach what it believes about life. So uninformed Catholics think it really isn’t a big deal, ‘cause they see folks who are into baby butchery just being occasionally scolded.

Public discipline is a teaching tool for bishops. But, for some reason, they decided not to use it for 40 years in the case of life issues. So now, if they do use public discipline to teach now, the question will be what the hell were they doing for 40 years on this issue. Many, in my opinion, are not humble enough to admit they really messed up.

My priest preached on foca and the post cards too. Many are going to be shocked at the tremendous amount of opposition that will be pouring into DC in a bit. But it’s going to take public discipline to really achieve what the Church should be doing as concerns baby butchery, the worst nightmare of the baby butchery crowd. And that means it’s more of a bishop thing than a parish priest thing.
