Religion is about you getting closer to G_d.

Absolutely right! When we attend church services, we meet God through HIs Word and the Sacraments. As this article notes, we are witnessing an insidious turning point in the history of our country when politicians approach religion as they would another demographic, manipulating scripture to suit their twisted ambitions. Note too the author's comments that truly religious people (those who actually practice their faith) consider themselves Republicans.

The battle lines are being drawn tighter and we must be prepared to fight to preserve our religious values.

There is a good E-mail about Oprah and her spiritualist movement circulating. Have you seen it?

NYer, that political turning point started back in 1976 with St. Jimmah of Plains. Its nothing new. In fact, when itr comes to politcal/religious cynicism, it could be argued that the Democrats and to a lesser extent the Republicans of the late 19th century and the Northern Republicans and So. Democrats of the 1920s were as bad if not worse, as anything we see today.
