—“You shall not take my name in Vain? “—

That primarily means it is a sin to use the Lord’s name as a curse word.

O. K. First, that isn’t true. It was common practice at the time of the Ten Commandments to “swear” an oath when a deal/contract was made and people would often use God to show their serious nature. To use God’s name in a dishonest manner is using His name in vain.

Second, anytime you deal with some sort of “Act of God” it is tempting to say with certainty what are the thoughts of God. Is there a presedence for God to judge sinful behavior? Absolutely. Does His judgement involve natural disasters? Obviously, these are quite well documented throughout Scripture. However, with all of that being said, we must all be very careful not to put thoughts into the minds of God. Is your theory possible? Absolutely. Do any of us know for sure? Not on this side of Heaven. So it is best to stay away from absolutes.

How about going to talk to some rabbinical scholars, until then keep your Biblical interpretation to yourself. Balaams ass is wiser than you.
