Comments about the book of mormon by Nelson W. greeen...

And my comments on his comments...
__________________________________________

The story of the Book of Mormon is eminently American. (That’s where the best yarns originate... :) )

The first book claims to have been written by a Jew, -Nephi, the Son of Lehi,-who lived in Jerusalem about 600 B. C. (About the time of the exile of the Jews to Persia)

Lehi was directed by the Lord, in a dream, to go to the desert of Arabia, with his family, which he did, and dwelt there for a long while; (Abraham) (Funny this though...Many of the rest of the Jews were captured and sent there by Nebuchadnezzar)

and being further directed by the Lord, traveled eastwardly for eight years, in search of a promised land, (Moses)

until he came to the sea. After building a ship, he sailed, with his family (Noah)

and others, to America, “guided by a compass.” (Gee...he had a compass...Noah had to rely on God)

It is not stated upon what part of the continent the expedition landed, (Mt Ararat, South America...Just ask the mormon traval agents..theres lots of pieces of the Ark there, Godzilla :) )

but by means of convenient “revelations” of later date, it is known to have been on the coast of Chili. (Is that where the Island of Moroni is ???)

Lehi and his four sons, Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi, and their four wives, (Again Noah ..but with an extra son and wife)

“two sons of Ishmael,” and their two wives, (Hmmmmmmm The son of promise and the son of the slave woman were reconciled... Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman. Galations 4:30)

and Zoram, a servant, and his wife; (Noah had no servants with him...only his blood kin and their wives)

eight men with each a wife, made up the migrating party, (Then Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him entered the ark because of the water of the flood. Genesis 7:7 in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. 1 Peter 3:20)

except that Lehi had also two sons born on the journey, Joseph and Jacob (Nope, no mention of any children born during the year on the Ark)

But Lehi soon died, (Hmmmmmmmm Noah didnt)

and dissensions divided the brothers. Nephi and Sam, and the servant Zoram, with their wives, with the young brothers, Joseph and Jacob, went into the wilderness; (Kicked out of the mormonm “eden” ???)

while Lanian and Lemuel, with the two “sons of Ishlmael,” and their wives, were condemned, with their posterity, by the Lord, for not following Nephi, (Hmmm the good guys were already in the wilderness...where was worse ???)

to have dark skills, and to “become an idle people, full of mischief and subtlety, which did seek in the wilderness for beasts of prey.” (Hmmm so they were early mormons...helps to have a program)

Nephi had been appointed ruler by the Lord, and hence this severity against rebellion. (this makes a lot of sense...what sense I dont know...but a lot)

Besides, it also proved the Hebrew origin of the American Indians. (Of course it does...)

But Nephi was prospered and his people increased. (Elsie is happy about that)

He says, “And I did teach my people to build buildings, and to work in all manner of wood, and of iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance. And I, Nephi, did build a temple; and I did construct it after the manner of the temple of Solomon, save that it were not built of so many precious things; for they were not to be found in the land; (Yes the gold and silver and copper and other many precious things were not to be found in the land...Psst...dont tell the Incas...

Oops...wait a mo...didnt he just get through saying he did use “iron, and of copper, and of brass, and of steel, and of gold, and of silver, and of precious ores, which were in great abundance” ????)

therefore it could not be built like unto Solomon’s temple. (Nothing is impossible with God..Luke 1:37...the mormon “god’ can find ready made gold “plates” but he cant tell you or Joseph where to find the raw stuff...Oh, yeah, well)

But the manner of the construction was like unto the temple of Solomon; (Oh well I am sooooo relieved to read that..)

and the workmanship thereof was exceeding fine. (of course Look who taught them...Nephi (the carpenter))

* * * * And it did come to pass (another of those “And it did come to pass” that drove Mark Twain nuts Twain said if Joseph Smith had left that phase out, his “book” would only have been a pamplet)

that I, Nephi, did consecrate Jacob and Joseph, that they should be priests and teachers over the land of my people. (Hmmmmm Where dids his “priestly authority” come from to do thaty..??? Joseph Smith had not been born yet to give it to him...Moses and Aaron..)

And it came to pass that we lived after the manner of happiness. (After Nephi had planted the grapes and harvested them and made and drank the wine)

And thirty years had passed away since we left Jerusalem.” After the death of Nephi, which occurred about fifty years after his arrival in America, (I thought they didnt know where they were ???)

his people were governed by a race of kings, ( ????? )

bearing his name, for many generations. This people were called Nephites. (sounds like something crawly)

The records were continued by Jacob, (Keep up..that’s Nephi’s kid brother...you know, one of the ones born to Lehi and his wife ON THE BOAT)

upon the golden plates, (thats them golden plates that Joseph Smith “found” ...I’ll take “Golden Platesa” for $1,000, Alex :) )

and by his son Enos, and then by Jurom the son of Enos, and Omni (is that the hotel chain ???)

the son of Jarom, down to Mormon, the writer of the last book, who “MANY HUNDERDS OF YEARS AFTER THE COMING OF CHRIST,” gave all these plates to his son Moroni. (So Mormon was an APOSTATE ???? So Moroni was an APOSTATE ???)

Then the various wars between the white and delightful and the “red men”

Then somewhere in between Lehi and Moroni...

The crucifixion of Christ was announced in the days of Nephi the second, by an earthquake, (Hmmmmmmmm There was an earthquake in South America and the “Nephites” knew that Jesus had been crucified...Tell me, why wasnt the visitation of angels announcing the BIRTH of jesus not recorded in the book of mormon ??? )

three days after which, the Lord hiinself descended out of heaven upon one of the chief cities, (Which one ??? Wouldntcha think that would be important to know ???)

and exhibited his hands and his feet, with the prints of the nails, (What about the sword thrust in His side ??? Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side;” John 20:27)

(three days after the crucifixon Jesus goes to Amertica) where he remained forty days, (Hmmmmm But the Bible says Jesus rose on the third day, (Luke 24:16) appeared to mary Magdalene (Mark 16:3) and walked with the 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus and taught them and ate with them and stayed till night with them (Luke 24:13-31)and appeared that night to the 11, ate with them, led them out to Bethany and then went up to Heaven for a time(Luke 24:36)and then was seen by many people in ISRAEL for 40 days (Acts 1:3) Jesus was never in 2 places at once...)

and founded churches. (Where are all these “churches today ???Did they all APOSTASIZE ???)

Nelson W. Green, Mormonism: its rise, progress, and present condition. Embracing the narrative of Mrs. Mary Ettie V. Smith, of her residence and experience of fifteen years with the Mormons ... together with the speech recently delivered before the “elders” in Utah, by Vice President Schuyler Colfax, and the answer of John Taylor, 1870, Pp 418-420)
