Episcopalians Ordain Lesbian Priest
KWTX ^ | 1/12/2009

(January 12, 2009)-- The Episcopal Diocese of Colorado has ended its so-called "period of restraint" on ordaining homosexual priests.

Bishop Robert O'Neill ordained Mary Catherine Volland to the priesthood during a ceremony on Saturday at St. John's Cathedral.

Volland, a longtime Colorado resident and partnered lesbian, had been a candidate for ordination in the Diocese of Minnesota.

She will serve at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Denver.

The issue of gay priests has splintered the church nationwide.

Stokes, spokeswoman for the 30,000-member Colorado diocese, said O'Neill had suspended gay ordination out of sensitivity for church factions strongly opposed to it.

She said Bishop O'Neill is now deciding the matter on a case-by-case basis.

Gay priests serve several Episcopal congregations in Colorado.

Only the latest of a number of issues driving the splintering since the '70s.

And how many more churchs will defect to the African wing? And how many more priests will convert to the Catholic faith?

Is the Episcopalian faith slowly fading? In my area, several churchs have faded, it’s congregations going to either Catholic or Lutheran.

“In my area, several churches have faded, it’s congregations going to either Catholic or Lutheran.”

Same here in my part of Ohio . . . couple Episcopalian churches have changed names and affiliations . . . You either preach God’s word or you don’t . . . Homosexuality is clearly addressed in the Bible . . . It was, is, and always will be a violation of all things taught by God.

I left the Episcopal church when they adopted a new prayer book. I liked the old one and didn’t need all that new age slop from the new one. Needless to say it was a “few” years ago.

“I left the Episcopal church when they adopted a new prayer book”

I had to verbally wrestle with a “female” Methodist pastorette who RE-quoted the Bible where Jesus says, “Rise and follow me. I’ll make you fishers of men.” Seems as though she didn’t like Jesus’ words and used “people” instead of “men.” I asked her where she got permission to change God’s words to suit the new-agers who generally don’t come to church anyway.

Never went back to that church again. I don’t have the patience to deal with changing God’s word.

"I left the Episcopal church when they adopted a new prayer book."

That would be about 40 years ago by my reckoning.

It has been a wild ride hasn't it?

Can you remember when your biggest beef with the Episcopal church was some niggling nicety about the liturgy?

OK. This peeves me off mightily.

Are they just doing this to annoy people??

Why do they have to call themselves Christians???

What I do not understand is that why they do not start a new religion and call it “Universalio” or whatever. I would respect their right to have their own religion and they would be the heck out of mainline Christianity

It is done to subvert real Christianity, the only way to attack it. Take control of it, make people "think" they are Christians and doing God's work, when they really have been turned away from it and are doing "someone else's" work - you know who!
Face it, Jesus said it would happen - true Christians would be persecuted in his name, for staying true to the real Christ.

The Episcopal church is nearly dead, IMHO. There are a few people and maybe a few parishes still hanging on, but TEC is owned by those who believe in a New Thing.

Where they've gone, I don't know. In the 70s and early 80s the Continuing Anglican churches had a big influx of departees. My church saw a small wave in the 90s, and almost nothing since. (We're still growing, but it's folks from the Presbyterian, Lutheran and other churches.)

I’m reminded of our Lords words, and a modern song, “I don’t want to gain the whole world, and lose my soul.”

You didn’t need the “sinless theology” either.

You are singing my song. There is so much in the Prayer Book that addresses so many needs. There is morning prayer, evening prayer, Thanksgiving, prayers for the dead and dying, for the sick.............There is just so much there for every season. How can anyone walk away from that?

My Mom was still alive when that fight was going on. She has been dead since 1976..........I think. Yes it has been a wild ride. So many changes and not for the best.

Because the actual head of their “church” wouldn’t achieve his goal to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

Now that I think about it my Mom’s biggest gripe was women showing up for services not dressed appropriately. My comment was that they were in church. What more did she want. Times have changed huh?

No I did not. I was born a sinner. I just hope that when my time comes I can be judged as forgiven.
