McLEAN--Nearly a dozen conservative church congregations in Virginia, including St. Stephen's Church in Heathsville, have won a lawsuit in which they sought to split from the U.S. Episcopal Church in a dispute over theology and homosexuality.
The final rulings came yesterday from a Fairfax County judge who said the departing congregations are allowed under Virginia law to keep their church buildings and other property as they leave the Episcopal Church and realign under the authority of conservative Anglican bishops from Africa.
Several previous rulings also had gone in favor of the departing congregations. The diocese said it will appeal.
Eleven Virginia congregations were involved in the lawsuit, including two prominent congregations that trace their histories to George Washington--Truro Church in Fairfax and The Falls Church in Falls Church.
The congregations voted to realign in late 2006. Since then, the rift in the Episcopal Church has grown, and entire dioceses have voted to leave the denomination. Similar property disputes are expected there as well.

Good for these Episcopalians standing up to this leftward druft of Christianity. We all have to start standing up to these leftist thugs and criminals.
I wonder if this would be the case for the Catholic Church as well...
“.The diocese will appeal: another $20 million down the drain for legal bills that otherwise would go to mission and ministry,.”
How many will be lost forever because of this?
And congrats to the members of the Church at the Falls.
Quite!
It is interesting that Falls Church was built by Anglicans, and after hundreds of years - now belongs to the Anglicans.
Was there a Catholic dispute over theology and homosexuality? While humans are sinful, including priests, the Catholic Church doesn't change...much...or often...or fast.
Yeah! Good for my friends in the Episcopal Church!
The priest scandal may have been a Godsend to the American Church. It revealed that many bishops have been poor shepherds and have been lukewarm in upholding Catholic doctrine and promises. Liberals like Cardinal Mahoney have been driven under cover as they realize that their temporaizing has earned them scorn. Still there is a strong “party” among the bishops who want to be well thought of by our elite institutions.

Different source, different story. Don’t know if you want to ping it or not.
I cannot agree that the "homosexual" priest scandal was a godsend. It would have been a godsend if homosexuals had not infiltrated the priesthood. The Catholic Church is now addressing the liberal temporizing and there is a good thing.
