Discuss the issues all you want, but do not make it personal.
you haven’t refuted any of my logic....because it is not possible.
Or maybe your reach has exceeded your grasp.
Well...
THIS threads done!
Ah, yes, natural selection. Darwin said that the character of the american people is due to natural selection. You see, americans have been in a constant Malthusian struggle for food -- breeding far more americans than can possibly survive. One american happened to have a random variation giving him a predisposition for industriousness and democracy. His descendants had an evolutionary advantage over the others, because, you see, democracy and american character is genetic. The others were rigidly exterminated, because, as Darwin says, natural selection never fails to rigidly destroy unfavorable variations. And thus, America is explained by biological science.
Yes. God is a maker of natures. The reason why the inorganic world behaves the way it does and manifests the intelligible order that it does, is because God fashioned the natures of the beings of the inorganic world, by which they are ordered to their final ends.
Did you find it to be productive?
“Tell me, based on the evidence of Adams physical appearance, how old was Adam on the day he was created?”
How many angels can fit on the head of a pin?
“you havent refuted any of my logic....because it is not possible.”
I haven’t refuted your faith—you’ve demonstrated no logic.
“What do they think, as a whole, about JESUS?”
I don’t understand your question. I’ve already told you that evolution is consistent with CHRISTianity.
“Why do you imply I said ALL Scripture is figurative?
Your post is disingenuous.”
Not at all. However, unless YOU can tell which is figurative and which isn’t, you’re misguided.
Evolution says that man's intellectual and moral faculties come from apes. Most forms of Christianity that aren't hopelessly liberal, would reject this. Those faculties pertain to the soul, and the soul is made immanently by God.
“I can’t think of any other theory that is hijacked by godless liberal cultists, can you?”
I can’t think of any other faith in which a vocal minority of adherents are overtly proud to demonstrate a total lack of interest in using the reasoning abilities that God gave them to understand the world that he created.
Source?
“Evolution says that man’s intellectual and moral faculties come from apes. Most forms of Christianity that aren’t hopelessly liberal, would reject this. Those faculties pertain to the soul, and the soul is made immanently by God. “
You’re asserting that God isn’t smart enough to use evolution to get to his desired end state.
You said that evolution is consistent with Christianity, and I'm giving you an example where it is not. I do understand your desire to quickly change the subject, though. Nevertheless, whatever you or I say will not change the fact that it is, to use Catholics for example, de fide that the intellect and moral faculty, which are part of the soul, comes immanently from God.
I didn’t change the subject. However, as a literal fundamentalist, you don’t want to hear any refutation of your argument. Besides, what’s wrong with arguing (not necessarily concluding) that man’s moral faculties came from apes*? Are apes not also God’s creation? Don’t today’s apes demonstrate very “human” qualities? At some point in a very long process, God inserted the soul.
*Oh, and the theory doesn’t state that man came from apes, a convenient ploy that literalists use to scare the uninformed. Man and ape, however, had a common ancestor.
Because (to stick with the Catholic example) it is de fide that this is false. I suppose you can argue about it for the sake of arguing, but you said there is no conflict between "evolution and Christianity", not that there is no conflict between 'arguing about evolution and Christianity.'
Are apes not also Gods creation? Dont todays apes demonstrate very human qualities? At some point in a very long process, God inserted the soul.
It's de fide that the moral faculties reside in the soul, so this would contradict your previous statement.
You can argue about the theology of apes as much as you like, but you are missing the point. This position is de fide for Catholics. Get it?
I GET your point; I just have a different point and don’t buy into the limitations that yours forces. And I am Catholic. Sorry, but I ascribe grander powers to God than you do. Yes, he created the whole ball of wax and set a grand process in motion. He left clues behind as to his method and gave us the brains to figure it out. Oh, and you must hold the state record for number of uses of de fide and imanently in the same posts!
Just in case you are not aware of it, if you are Catholic and you deny what is de fide, you would be denying the Catholic Faith.
Yes, he created the whole ball of wax and set a grand process in motion.
This sounds just like Deism. Deism is a doctrine condemned by the Catholic Church.
