Biblical Analysis Help Needed.
God Bless America! | Self

Posted on 12/12/2008 10:25:41 AM PST by Gemsbok

I am requesting assistance in the form of guidance to a well organized website(s) that could serve as an Evangelical Christian study guide to All of the individual books of the Bible contained in both the Old & New Testaments.

The focus of the study is to present a brief summary ( condensed into 1-2 paragraphs) for each of the books of the Bible. Each summarization would need to include major events, themes, significant personalities, and genre for each separate book.

TOPICS: Evangelical Christian; History; Religion & Culture; Theology
KEYWORDS: bible; biblestudy; evangelical; otnt

I am going to assume that you are just having a ‘bad day’ after reading your comment. “”This idea is in itself opposed to Judeo-Christaain teaching.””

Well, the idea of this project and presentation was suggested by a minister whose kids just graduated from the largest Christian Evangelical University in the world. If such an idea or assignment is considered worthy for hundreds of thousands of their graduates and the many authors who have penned books and compiled websites regarding the Bible, where is the heresy?

Since when is seeking information about the Bible considered oppositional to Christ?

BTW, Thank-you Iowa’s mark , for giving us Omaba as a trade-off for your ethanol subsidies.

The MacArthur Study Bible has at the beginning of each book these “summaries”:
Title,
Author and Date,
Background and Setting,
Historical and Theological Themes, and
Interpretive Challenges.

It then contains an outline of the book.
There are many useful charts too, such as a chart overlaying the prophets with their time period along with who they were prophesying to and under which kings.

I found the chart of “The Progress of Revelation” to be helpful. This lists all the books in the order of their appx. writing date. It was interesting to learn that Galatians was the first Epistle written by Paul. Couple that with the fact that it is the only book that Paul doesn’t personally say how thankful he is for them, but instead goes right into rebuking them, one could make the case that we can see personal growth displayed in Paul’s life as the other books are written, making sure that he acknowledges how thankful he is for the brethren in the churches.

ESV online study Bible has some similar options:
http://www.esvstudybible.org/search

For example: Click on the book of Matthew, look to the right for “Enjoy this free preview of the ESV Study Bible notes.” and just under that click on “Introduction to Matthew”

This is just a sample. I believe the online version can be purchased or you can get it free with a purchase of a hard copy.

Enjoy your quest for Truth!

If comparing denominations, this is a nice anthology.

An excellent resource is the “So That’s Why! Bible”, published by Nelson.

Subtitle is “Making Sense of All the Peoples, Places and Events of the Bible”.

It is in the New King James Version translation, and it is chronological, which puts such prophetic books as Ezekiel, Jeremiah and Isaiah in sync with the historical books of Kings, Chronicles, Samuel, etc.

The version I have came with a CD-ROM.

Hope this helps.

Matthew 7:13-14 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

There are a number of Study Guides to the Bible.

Wilmington’s Study Guide to the Bible is inexpensive and provides some of the points you seek in printed form. A number of Bible Study software products also include it as reference material.

Logos is one of the more prolific Bible Reference Software packages. Others include QuickVerse, Nelson’s eBible, and PC Study Bible, to name just a few.

Here is a web site to compare them.

Look at the Logos software demo for a well organized study tool. http://www.logos.com/demo

Calm yourself, youngster. You don’t need to shout your hate and immaturity at a comment on a bulletin board.

Consider turning away from the path of Evil. You will be much happier.

Halley’s is certainly worth reading. Each chapter of each book, OT and NT, are summarized, in digest form, and explained in light of history. When I study a book of the Bible, I go to Halley’s to enlighten me on the various historical persona and events involved. He was a Christian, and evidently a gifted scholar.

Thanks so much, I’ll check those sources out.

The idea of the project is to give a historical perspective on the various genre of Biblical literature through the key themes and persons that guide to the redemptive theme of scripture ultimately fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

We are not focusing on apologetics or specific contrasts and comparisons of doctrine to any other faith.

Thanks!

Acts Chapter 2 verse 38 pretty much sums it all up.

If you need help with the details......it is available.

As I expected, nearly 30 FReepers have provided helpful and insightful responses that will help with this project. I have answered each of them back with appreciation and further explanations of what the project entails.

And then I have Iowamark’s responses that are judgemental, insulting, and condemning.

Your accusations of “shout, hate, immaturity, and ‘paths to evil” are sadly and oddly misplaced. Good day!

Thanks, I’ve briefly checked some of the sites listed here by FReepers and they are excellent sources.

The end result will be a compilation of 66 X 1-2 paragraphs and hopefully will yield an informative discussion forum. Perhaps I will post one or two paragraphs here in the future and get the freeper ‘take’ on the Bible project.
