I was alerted to this sad news....
Fr. Bourgeois has been excommunicated
A reader sent me this:
Dear Ms. ,
As stated in an earlier communiqué from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (CDF) in Rome, Father Bourgeois was given 30 days to recant his actions regarding the ordination of women as priests, or endure the penalty of excommunication. Since he has said he cannot recant those actions, he has been excommunicated by the CDF.

Catholic ping!
who is he and what did he do wrong?
Vote to allow killing of unborn babies: "well its up to the individual to determine if receiving communion yada yada yada and the local bishop needs to decide if yada yada yada as excummunication is such a harsh yada yada yada."
Say women should be priests: "EXCOMMUNICATE!!!!"
He participated in a heretical ordination of women priestesses.
The only *sad* thing is his unrepentant sinfulness.
This guy is not a politician - he's a priest.
He's been off the rails for years of course, but they got him at last.
Could the American bishops have had more backbone, sooner? Sure. But a surprising number have stepped up now (even the dullest of them have realized what's at stake).
Let's praise them when they do right, not just criticize.
Is he a Maryknoll? Its my understanding that they are up to their butts in “liberation theology” and other radical ideas.
How many would say a prayer for a malignant tumor removed from the body?
While in a moment of Christian charity, someone might say a prayer for the soul of Heinrich Himmler, but in retrospect, it would likely not be because of the evil that he did, but because of his notoriety. This is because few would be able to countenance praying for the souls of Himmler’s followers, who did Himmlers and their own will with their own hands.
There are just too many, who committed too many evil and horrific acts in their lives. This was done without conscience, and because they wanted to do these things. Many even called themselves Catholics. And to the bitter end, many never saw a failure in their righteousness.
So what of Fr. Roy Bourgeois?
If a foul sinner somehow found grace, and renounced his sins, seeking repentance, and forgiveness from those he had injured, and from heaven, he would be among the best of the righteous.
So what if the opposite holds true. That a man who has been offered grace and been elevated and treated with honor and respect, then falls from that grace, and with smug self-righteousness spurns these gifts and instead embraces his pride, how shall he be considered?
Yes, it is sad, but sad as it can be said that Lucifer was sad. Lucifer did not regret his pride, feeling justified in his opinion. Shall a prayer be offered for him as well?
If I recall correctly, they supported him at least initially. They've been very loony for a very long time.
Perhaps this will give them pause.
The Maryknolls and unfortunately, Jesuits, have strayed from the path of orthodoxy. Ignatius Loyola would never recognize what were once the shock troops of the counter reformation.
There are a number of very orthodox and faithful ones . . . and then there are the ones who have run off the rails a bit.
A number of years ago a FReeper told me that the way to tell them apart was to look at their shoes. An orthodox Jesuit will almost always be wearing beat-up, well-worn sturdy shoes. I haven't checked to see what the other kind are wearing, but my daughter attends a Jesuit parish at college and tells me that sure enough, the old-timers wear shoes that look like they came from the reject pile at Goodwill.
Devout men probably have more important things to think about than the condition of their shoes.
I have heard that St. Francis Xavier's cassock got into such a state that his friends wanted to replace it, but knew if they gave him a new one he would give it away. So they STOLE his old one and put the new one in its place.
Apparently he wore it for some time without noticing, until somebody complimented him on how nice it looked.
Exactly, politicians can actually cause the deaths by their votes, this guy can only express his opinions. I am glad they finally got this guy out, and you are right that the church is FINALLY stepping up.
The priest who strays is in fact far more harmful than the politician. He may cause many, many more deaths by giving cover to hundreds of death-minded politicians, not to mention putting immortal souls at risk. Plus, of course, he's betraying his vows of obedience.
Lucifer cannot repent. While he lives, Fr. Bourgeois can repent. Pray for him.
Amazing.
