For the past two weeks, Sacramento leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been on high alert.
They are hiring extra security to watch over the Folsom temple, and asking members to drive by church buildings late at night. Mormons in law enforcement are keeping track of Internet chatter to find out where protests will be held.
"Our members in law enforcement know where to look for this kind of stuff," said Lisa West, spokeswoman for the church in the Sacramento region. She added that they are doing this on their own time. "There's a lot of volatility in the air, so we're asking people to keep their eyes and ears open."
Mormon leaders have been staying vigilant since the Nov. 4 election and passage of Proposition 8, which bans same-sex marriage.
The Mormon church's ability to generate active support of its membership and dominate fundraising is credited with ensuring Proposition 8's passage. Church members reportedly contributed nearly half of the $40 million raised to pass the initiative.
The church's involvement – its biggest and most widespread campaign since it helped defeat the Equal Rights Amendment in the 1970s – also has made Mormons a target of criticism from outside interests and even from within the church family.
Many say it is the most divisive issue for the church in decades.
In the past two weeks, 10 local church buildings have been vandalized, temples in other areas have been picketed, and last week envelopes containing suspicious white powders were mailed to a temple in Southern California and one in Utah.

When Mayor Newsom decided he knew best and ignored state marriage law in 2004 by opening marriage to homosexuals, there were no protests, no marches into The Castro to intimidate and rally support against homosexuals.
When the court ruled for same-sex marriage there was no vandalism or intimidation or protests.
When the first actual legal homosexual couples went to get married, nobody stood in their way, nobody intimidated or was ready to pick fights about that. They were able to go about their business without any fear.
Given that all the hate and violence and potential for violence is coming from the “tolerant” side of the issue, what does that tell you?????
The “gay” issue is one of the slimmest and smallest of demographics a mere status issue for white liberals to dun white conservatives over the head with over some supposed moral superiority. The Left’s precious “diversity” voted overwhelmingly against it and yet the Mormons take the heat from these spoiled children. These kids are never asked, “Who supports you?”
I laugh when I see the polygamy signs. If they were intelligent as they like to be perceived, they would realize that there has been no polygamy in the LDS church for about 150 years! Hello?

The Mormons in history exhibited restraint until the barrage became to great. Then they struck back. These gays better not push much further or they might force Mormons to strike back and there is nothing like a huge religion that patience has expired. Don't be fooled, gays be careful. They might get more than they choose.
so has anyone been arrested and charged with a hate crime?
If not why are the media not asking this because I am sure if a group attacked a bunch of homo’s it would be widely reported by the left wing media.
Also why does he hold a sign saying where is his civil rights, he has had none taken away, plain and simple.

I wonder how it is going to be when some happy soul just wanting to go to the Temple gets assaulted? I wonder if our Priesthood will remember the constraints of the Book of Mormon to defend our families even unto the shedding of blood?
Mormons aspire to something higher...chances are they won’t retaliate as a whole...and the strikers are going about it in a stupid, immature, and virtually noneffective manner anyways. If they really wanted to piss off the church...they’re going about it the wrong way. It’s just going to take some time for the strikers and pessimistic citizens of California to realize that. The squeaky wheel may get the oil; but they aren’t squeaking in a way that’s got me calling them anything but airheads....
