freeplancer said — “Just think, your superior church probably sat at home and did nothing to stick up for families and morals. You probably managed to preach about it though.”

while scory said — “You are a bigot and an ignorant fool.”

There is a big distinction between the teachings of historic, basic and traditional Christianity as taught over the ages, versus the teachings of the Mormon Church (which are non-Christian, admittedly said by Mormon’s themselves...).

That, being said — has nothing to do with political action and voting on gay marriage, other than two *different* groups (i.e., Christians and Mormons) find themselves in the same ball park on that one political issue. And that’s fine.

But, that does not mean that any Christian who believes and trusts in the basics of Christianity and its teachings over the centuries has to agree with Mormon doctrines and teachings which are decidedly non-Christian.

Don’t get the two mixed up and it’s not bigoted to make *firm distinctions* between the two... That’s what all Christians are commanded to do in searching out the Scriptures (of the Bible that we’ve been given, consisting of those 66 books written by 44 authors of God’s Word) — to find the truth of that Word.

Oh, and talk about what the “Christian Church” did in Oklahoma, I would say that it produced the biggest win for the McCain-Palin ticket of all the states in the United States that went for the Republican ticket — the absolute biggest percentage with 66% of the vote for it.

You can thank the “worldview” that is produced in Oklahoma from those various historic, basic and foundational Christian churches and all their members. That spills over, very obviously, in the political arena, as we can see in Oklahoma...

I have no idea what you are talking about. If you don’t think Mormons are Christians, that is fine, but there are over 300 other Christian denominations that don’t agree with you about everything in the Bible and Christian history. So, why all of you “real Christians” are preaching to each other and telling each other why the other one is going to hell, the Mormons are out there sticking up for and spending their money on supporting Christian values.

That't the thing with statistics by deciding which pieces to include you can easily make your case.

Lets break it down. Actual numbers are here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Presidential_Election_2008#Election_results

Oklahoma gave McCain/Palin 65.6% of the vote

Utah gave McCain/Palin 64.7% of the vote

What also needs to be considered however is the influence of the Constitution party (ie Clinton came in third in Utah)

Baldwin was not on the ticket in OK, no third party was. Baldwin was on the ballot in Utah and got 11,131 votes. Had he not been on the ballot in Utah it is reasonable to say Utah would have been on top voting for McCain/Palin. Baldwin's votes put Utah over the top in voting for the conservative Evangelicals (Palin & Baldwin a Baptist pastor) at a higher rate than the voters even in Oklahoma.

Of course there are deeper layers as well.

There are Mormons in Oklahoma (I was born there and attended church as a youngster) and Evangelicals in Utah. Salt Lake City is 50% non Mormon so we really need a further breakdown of religious groups like the one here at Christianity Today http://blog.christianitytoday.com/ctpolitics/2008/11/the_evangelical.html which lists 1 out of 4 Evangelicals going for Obama.

What I really want to see is a breakdown of mormon voters as well. Granted this article I found is from the liberal rag SLTribune so take it with a grain of salt but Obama managed to peel off more Evangelicals and Catholics than Kerry did 4 years ago. Mormons were lumped in the protestant other/category which didn't budge for Obama while the Evangelical Protestant category did.

http://www.sltrib.com/ci_10915490

Protestants, too, went with Obama by an increase of 5 percentage points, although - similar to Catholic results - the increase had less to do with a shift among white voters than it did with people of different racial backgrounds. Evangelical support, in recent years assumed a Republican shoo-in, grew for Obama, while those who considered themselves non-Evangelical Protestants didn't waver or change. Mormons did not have a separate category in this initial study and were included with "Protestant/Other Christian," the report stated.

If anyone can dig up the mormon breakdown of voting results I'd like to see it. But I'm guessing the MSM doesn't want teh info. out there.

So to make a long story short. Here are the soundbites "Christian Oklahoma was the highest state for McCain/Palin" but another relevatnt soundbite is that "Mormon Utah voted for Evangelical candidates Palin/Baldwin at an even higher rate than Christian Oklahoma"

Now what do we do with this information? Instead of quibbling about Doctrines why don't we figure out how to get the rest of the country to vote in 4 years the way Okalhoma and Utah did this go around.
