Sacerdotalism
(Lat. sacerdos, priest)
Sacerdotalism is the belief in an established hierarchy that separates man from God. In such a system the priesthood stands as an essential mediator between God and man. This priesthood, according to sacerdotalists, is a necessary component in worship, receiving communion, confessing sin, baptism, and other acts of administering grace. This chaste system is generally rejected by most Protestants who traditionally hold to the doctrine of the priesthood of all believers (1 Pet. 2:5). Protestants believe that the only mediator between God and man is Christ (1 Tim. 2:5). Advocates of sacerdotalism reference the priesthood established in the Old Testament which was sacerdotal. Opponents will emphasize the difference between the New Testament church and the Old Testament theocracy, believing that the Old Testament sacerdotal system is completely fulfilled in Christ and, therefore, no longer necessary (Heb. 10:19-20).

Good grief.
Making up fake definitions now, are we?
SACERDOTALISM (from Lat. sacerdos, priest, literally one who presents sacred offerings, sacer, sacred, and dare, to give), a term applied, usually in a hostile sense, to the system, method and spirit of a priestly order or class, under which the functions, dignity and influence of the members of the priesthood are exalted in the ministry of religion, and in the church at the expense of the laity. This exalting of the priesthood in the Christian church is based on the claim that the priest exercises sacrificial and supernatural powers in the celebration of the Eucharist. No kidding.
Nope, same source I always use.
“sacerdotalism.”
Causes cancer in lab rats. But you misspelled it.
Knock em to their tailbones for their arrogance!
"They will know you are my disciples by your love for one another."
Does your dictionary have a definition for “strawman”?
Actually, you have it bass-ackwards, as usual.
Humility is what comes from subordinating your own will and understanding to a superior authority which alone has the mission of authentically interpreting the truth contained in God's words and commands.
Arrogance is the fruit of thinking that your personal understanding of truth as expressed in His Scriptures is one and the same as God's . Or to put it another way, that you have a hotline to the Holy Spirit. That's pride.
Pride in turn, leads us to look down on our brothers and sisters and decree that their tails be mightily kicked.
This may be a rare exception to the usually cordial discussion on this series of threads.
Bash in their skulls with the two-by-four of love.
Does it separate man from God or does it bring us closer? I think one's attitude to the priesthood depends on how we see the Church.
A useful analogy would be the attitude of young people to their parents. Some young people see their parents as obstacles, who are there purely to obstruct their having fun and enjoying life by imposing onerous rules and conditions on what they may or may not do. They see authority as a burden.
Other young people can see that their parents impose rules and conditions out of love in order to guide them on the right path and keep them from harm. They see authority not as a burden, but as a safeguard.
It's a little like that with the Church. Some see it as being there to obstruct man's path towards heaven. Others see it as being there to light the way and illuminate the path in the darkness. How you view the priesthood therefore, depends on how you view the role of the Church and its authority.
Just as with the children, so also with the Church, it needs to be said that those who reject this authority are engaing in rebellion.
Most of the definitions posted are "good" to "excellent," and are reasonably unbiased. Not so with today's. This one merits an "F."
Now we must each study and pray and get confirmation from our Heavenly Father as to what His way is.
