I guess basic liberal education (original meaning) is no longer taught at our fine universities.

Only at a minority of universities. However, you'd think anyone who was writing an article and came to a term he didn't know, such as "Communion," would think to call a knowledgeable source, say the Chancery's information number, and ask. Or use an obvious source like the Catechism online.

But no, just make something up ...

“I did not know that the bishop does not support the U.S. Conference of Bishops,” said Gannon, after Martino’s remarks.

How many orthodox Catholics do support the USCCB? I don’t know of any.

**“ ... He reminded those in attendance, and by extension all the faithful of the Diocese of Scranton, that groups such as Catholic United ... and other like-minded groups and individuals who make statements about Catholic teaching do not speak with the same authority or authenticity as their bishop.”**

Pray for this courageous bishop.

“No social issue has caused the death of 50 million people,” he said, nothing that he no longer supports the Democratic Party.  “This is madness people.”

“No USCCB document is relevant in this diocese,” said Martino. “The USCCB doesn’t speak for me.”

Take that!

Sounds like the cavalry just showed up!

The liberals were just getting busy pouring dry ice into the "abortion fog machine" when Martino arrived and pulled the plug. Dang..........there goes the party!!

Martino's statement is music to my ears. Bernardin must be spinning in his grave. I think that slowly but surely a change is taking place in the US Church. I believe Divine grace is once again flowing our way now that the Tridentine Rite has been freed up and the molesters and shirtlifters have been flushed from seminaries and rectories.

I believe as a matter of church law, bishops’ conferences cannot teach binding doctrine unless it is approved by the Holy See, or something like that. I believe that is what the good bishop is referring to here. The USCCB document is just a statement of opinion of the body of bishops, but does not usurp the teaching office of a bishop in his diocese.

This is just another attempt to confuse the abortion issue.Every Bishop who has spoken out against the position of Obama,Biden and Pelosi on abortion agree that abortion is an intrinsic evil. I believe that the unity on the abortion issue of the Catholic Bishops is going to be a big factor in this election.
