106-year-old voter chooses Obama
BBC ^ | October 12, 2008 | David Willey

b>A 106-year-old American nun living in a convent in Rome could well be the oldest person to vote in the 2008 US Presidential election.

Sister Cecilia Gaudette, who last voted for President Eisenhower in 1952, has registered to vote and says she will vote for Democrat Barack Obama.

Although hard of hearing, she keeps herself informed by reading newspapers and watching TV at the convent.

"I'm encouraged by Senator Obama," she says.

"I've never met him, but he seems to be a good man with a good private life. That's the first thing. Then he must be able to govern," she adds.

Sitting in her modest office in the convent where she has lived for the past 50 years, the diminutive nun appears uninterested in the row inside the American Catholic church over Senator Obama's support for pro-choice policies on abortion.

Asked about her hopes for the US under an Obama presidency, she says: "Peace abroad. I don't worry about the Iraq war because I can't do anything about it. Lord knows how it will end."

"It is very complicated," she said. "Those Eastern people are not like we are."

But despite taking part in the 4 November election, Sister Cecilia does not intend to return to the US.

"I have no plans for the future. I am too old to go back to the US. Life has changed too much."

But she still watches "very important events" on TV. The election comes under this category.

At her age she might ought to think before she sells her soul to the devil.

That is priceless and just shows how far ACORN and whatever are willing to spend to find the blind, crippled and crazies in order to convince them to vote for the Messiah.........

This is getting scarier and scarier......

“...she has a young family in the US in contact with her.”

AHH...so they are the ACORN agents. The same folks who have caused world-wide financial crisis—Great Depression II as it were...

Wait, I’m getting confused. Let me put on my tinfoil hat and I’ll be right back.

Those nieces can always remember that they lied and tricked her into voting for an abortion pusher. And in 30 years they can look back on their lives and fully appreciate the six abortions between them that Obama helped to insure their right to choose. What a rich legacy.
At least they won’t be punished.

That is very interesting.

I lost my right to vote in UK elections after living abroad for fifteen years.

"Although hard of hearing, she keeps herself informed by reading newspapers and watching TV "

Is that even possible?

Well, she hasn't voted since 1952 and has spent 50 years out of the country. May she thinks Obama is a nice Irish Catholic boy.

E vidently, at 106, Sister Cecilia has vacated her brain pan. God bless the old lady but she did not become a nun to vote for the likes of Hussein Obama, an enemy of our Faith if ever there was one.

For the first time in my life, I think I’ve come up with a good reason for nuns NOT to wear a habit:

obviously that bonnet is pulled just a little too tight and has blocked off the flow of blood to her brain.

How else explain a “Bride of Christ” endorsing a baby-killer who can’t even produce an authentic birth certificate for us to look at.

Far more scary than senile old nuns, however, are the “Catholics for Obama” - the Leftists who equate melting the ice-caps with drilling holes in the skulls of infants. Of course, there are precedents: the Patriotic Catholic Church of Communist China and, during the Cold War, traitorous clergy, religious and laity working in Soviet satellite countries to undermine the Faith.

Agreed... but sheeesh! After reading about all the felons in Florida who are ready to vote, this put me over the top. I feel very discouraged that there is no way we can stop this election from being stolen.

God help us!

And I also pray to God that He’ll take me before I become an old fool.

I’m speechless that she could want to vote for a pro-death politician.

She must not realize that in voting the Democratic platform she is advocating for further abortions. This is a mortal sin to support abortions. She is excommunicating herself.

I don't think that is correct. A Catholic can indeed support a pro-abort candidate as long as it is in spite of his pro-abort stance, not because of that stance. I'm sure you'll correct me if I'm wrong.

If the nun is in fact breaking the law, McCain as a Senator and Candidate must uphold the Constitution. And if the nun is breaking the law, McCain should demand that she be prosecuted.

If she isn't, it certainly points to rather loose election laws, don't you think? I mean, apparently, you can suspend your American presidential vote for MORE THAN 50 YEARS, (sorry for shouting) express no interest in returning to the US, and still vote? Amazing.

The imagery on TV in the days before the Election would be profound. McCain calling for the nuns arrest and then Federal Officers hauling the nun away in leg irons and handcuffs.

Or, just forget about it and let the nun cast her one vote.

Well, there's the rub. That would make a most unfortunate scene three weeks out to election day. But, what if it isn't just one vote? What other nonsense like this is going on?

Please, please, don't let get me started on the topic of her pro-abortion vote...

I still don't know whether I even believe this story from the Beeb...
