Religious Supernatural Experiences According to a new survey, almost half of Americans say they have had at least two supernatural experiences in their life, and conservative Protestants are more likely to report such an experience than religious liberals. The Baylor Religion Survey reports that the most common religious experiences reported by Americans are:
Protection from harm by a guardian angel (55 percent);
Called by God to do something (44 percent);
Witnessing a miraculous healing (23 percent); and
Hearing the voice of God (20 percent).
See Christian Post. These findings were released in a book entitled What Americans Really Believe, which became available this past week. Dr. Rodney Stark, who is co-director of Baylor's Institute for Studies of Religion, who authored the book, said that "[a] finding like this doesn't directly change religion or the churches." "What it may change are popular perceptions. THe knowledge that such events are common may change the way the media treat them and may reassure many who have had them."
The survey also reported other results, finding that sixty-seven percent of Americans were "absolutely sure" of the existence of heaven, and seventy-three percent believe hell either absolutely or probably exists.
Finally, even with the modern day push of atheism, and the popularity of books by Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins, the actual percentage of atheists in America remains steady at four percent. This number has not changed in the past 63 years.
How about you - have you ever experienced protection from harm by a guardian angel or know someone who has been miraculously healed? If so you are not alone, you may join the ranks of the many Americans who have also experienced similar incidents.
I have had many healings and answers from GOD...Sometimes I think he might say...Lordy it’s her again! :)
But I am also so Thankful to the Lord and all he has done....
You do realize this is a duplicate thread, don’t you? I’m sure it’s been posted before. LOL!
Of the four examples listed, I have experienced all of them. I cannot prove to any sceptic that God was at the root of my experiences, but I choose to believe so.
My wife had the same experience with one excpetion. I was able to look out of the corner of my eye and see an angel of the purest white light. A year later my wife had died from breast cancer and I have always beleived the angel appeared to me to insure I was comforted during the coming challenges.
In one our Bible Study classes, the teacher asked those who had seen a vision to raise their hands. About 85% of the class did so. I was stunned.
God is involved in our lives on a minute by minute basis.
No!
no surprise, you engage God and he will answer.........
I posted this article a couple of days ago, but everything from march 08 until this afternoon is missing for right now.
I knew I had seen it. I now about the database crash. My thanks to John R for getting on the problem right away.
I’ll survive. I’m not an addict. Really. It will be okay. I’m sure.
What you Do or Do NOT Do preaches the strongest message of all.. We are ALL preachers.. preaching something.. What everyone does daily is a religious supernatural experience.. What comes out of your mouth does have a little effect..
When my wife and I were expecting our first child, God told me that I was going to have a son. Months had passed and we had an ultrasound done. The doctor with his strong Austrian accent stated that we were indeed going to be the proud parents of...a baby girl. He had a clear shot and boasted that of the 10,000’s of ultrasounds he had done, he was never wrong. I returned to work and told everyone what the doctor had said and then emphatically expressed that God told me that I was going to have a son ( not that I minded a daughter). Anyway as the days went on and everyone was in baby girl is on the way mode, again God pressed on my heart that I was going to have a son and what his name should be Joshua Ariel. I stood firm in my resolve and at the baby shower as item after item of girly stuff was passed around I stood up and said WE ARE HAVING A SON! They all laughed at me and said maybe next time. During my wife’s delivery her asked about the ultrasound and my wife told he that the baby would be a girl and the name would be Jade. I again professed what I am certain GOD told me. The doctor said oh you can enjoy your daughter this time and have a son some other time perhaps(as if the little woman wanted to hear about another baby during labor). Soon the little one was on the horizon, out popped the silkiest curly hair I’d ever seen. I can see him honey, I sai. He has a head full of hair. Soon with one mighty push and much criticism from the doctor for using anesthiea (sp?) out popped the beautiful bundle. OH SHE’S BEAUTIFUL! the doctor and crew said. I looked and said OH YEAH, WELL WHAT IS THAT!?! pointing at a certain area upon my child’s body. Their jaws dropped to the floor as I praised the LORD for...MY SON. He’s seven years old now.
“If I knew God I’d be Him.”
First some background: My youngest granddaughter Natalee was born premature with cerebral palsy. At two weeks she went into a coma and was put on a respirator. After a month the doctors told us there was nothing else that could be done and that she would not survive and her parents agreed to having the breathing tube removed.
I approached my daughter and son in law about anointing any praying over Natalee before they removed the tube. They agreed and so did the doctors. She was moved from NICU to a pediatric room so that we could do this.
Only four people were allowed to visit Natalee in NICU and I wasn't on the list so this was the very first time I had seen or held my granddaughter. I held her and anointed her head with oil as the elders from our church and our daughters church laid hands and prayed over her. It was a small room that held only about eight people, but a steady stream of family, friends, doctors, nurses and church family made their way through the room laying hands and praying for her. It seems odd now, but the only thing I can remember praying for is to see Natalee dance someday.
When they removed the breathing tube the next day Natalee began breathing on her own. Though they still gave her no chance to survive they returned her to NICU and put her on oxygen. Six weeks later Natalee came home.
Natalee cannot sit up by herself and she never learned to crawl. We were told that she would never be able to walk except maybe when she was much older and only then with a walker. She is s very beautiful girl and is highly intelligent with a very large vocabulary.
At 2 1/2 she learned to stand holding onto something and the day before her third birthday she took her first steps. She is 3 and a half now and walks very well except that she walks on her very tip toes because of the cerebral palsy. But that is alright, she wants to be a ballerina.
I was at Simkins dorm at University of Texas, Austin in August, 1966. I normally went to the “stacks” in the Library. I walked pass my car and something told me I should go visit my mother in San Antonio. I halted but then continued walking to the crossing to the main campus. All of a sudden as I stoof there waoting for the light to change, I had the most URGENT feeling that I should go see my mother. So I went back to my car and drove on to San Antonio, and was so glad to see my mother was OK, I embraced her with unsual warmth, and asked her how she felt. She said fine, and so we got to talking, and then she wanted me to take her shopping. We were in a store. I was standing at the front. At the back was a whole line of TV sets. I noticed that on each one was a picture of the Texas Tower. I walked to the back and learned that a shooter was at the top of the Tower and had killed and wounded a number of people. I will always remember that moment, because I would have had to have passed right under the eyes of Charles Whitman.
I have personally had many spiritual experiences, from healings to voices of warning to visits from beyond the grave to deliver important mesages. Anyone who is open to the workings of the Lord has had the same type of blessings. For those who doubt such workings in these modern days, I can say to them “My favorite radio station doesn’t stop working whenever I change the tuner. The break in the communication is entirely on my side.”
Although you have established the fact that you are not God, how does your reply relate?
You're one up on me then.
Good for you.
What do you think "good" means?
Evil?
Let's ignore one another.
