A friend of mine recently put me up to trying out for a radio show. We both assumed it was in a typical airwave format. But it turned-out to be "internet radio," instead. Anyway, I got one of the slots that opened up, and I now am in the eighth week of airing a half-hour show in my talk-show format.
Since the series is still fairly new, I am still canvassing some pretty broad topics, in an overview approach to each. I hope to start narrowing the focus in the next few weeks, however. As a general rule, the show consists of a catechetical and apologetics approach to each week's topic, and comes from an unabashedly Catholic POV. Under BenedictXVI, and with the grace of God, I firmly believe the Catholic Church is starting to snap out of its 40-year, self-induced torpor, and its reinvigoration is in its nascent stages. So, with that in mind, and taking inspiration from the raising of Lazarus in John 11, the name of the show is "Take Away the Stone."
In the next month or so, , I hope to flesh the format out a bit by mixing in some interview shows - mostly so people won't have to listen to the same voice the whole time! Unfortunately, the show is recorded, so live call-ins are not possible.
Anyway, I hope that some of the Catholics here on FR - as well as any other interested parties - will be able to tune-in. The show's website is cyberstationusa.com, (though it shows on your browser as www.dqrm.com, but it is reachable by Googling either one) and, once there, one just needs to click on "The Shows" near the upper-right corner, scroll down to Sunday, and find Take Away the Stone there. Each show is broadcast at 9:30 AM Eastern time on Sundays, and is archived for two weeks.
It's been fun doing the shows so far, and a good learning experience, too. I had to do five weeks' worth of shows in a music format first, before going to my desired talk-show format, in order to learn all the equipment. Over time, fiddling with slides and dials while talking simultaneously is getting easier, and people tell me I'm sounding a bit more relaxed. It ain't the catechetical equivalent of Shakespeare, but it's getting a little better with each week. I hope you'll listen in!

I might add that, while each show first airs at a specific time, since they are archived for two weeks, people can, of course, listen to those shows at any time of the day!

Lot of that going around lately. In place of an FCC license and broadcast equipment, you need a server and bandwidth. I'm guessing it's way cheaper.
A recent startup: Pirate Christian Radio.
I've had multiple opportunities to do what Leo's doing here (not all in the context of Christian radio, however), but to date haven't been interested because of the microscopic audiences they usually generate. I suppose I shouldn't "despise the day of small beginnings" (Zech. 4:10).
True, but one has to start somewhere. There certainly isn’t “ratings pressure,” and I’m free to develop and perfect techniques and format styles. Also, while the numbers certainly aren’t “huge,” apparently, this internet “station” seems to generate relatively large listenership in China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand. So, in a way, I get to play St. Francis Xavier without having to leave the confines of my own state. What a deal!
Also, I own the copyright, and receive the show on CD before I leave the studio. This gives me a built-in portfolio, which they don’t mind if I use once their first-use is completed. So, after a while longer, when the show is more honed, I might try to shop it around to a few airwave stations in the area and see what happens. Even if nothing else comes of it, all I asked for was just a rake to clean-up the leavings in the Vineyard, anyway, and He gave me one! What a deal!

I listened to your show today and it's great to be able to put a voice with the text of your posts. I just spoke with my oldest daughter about properly forming her conscience (yesterday), like will power it needs to be exercised regularly so it’s strong when you need to use it.
Thank you for giving me additional resources to continue the formation of my own conscience and to be a good example for my family and others.

My next show (already recorded, to air next Sunday) is on Confession. I wanted to get more in, but there are the inevitable time constraints. I have to get busy to prep the next show, and I might just keep going on the same theme. If I don’t I will certainly get back to it, since it’s so important and so often neglected these days.
