Over the years, he said, "Scripture has been used to denigrate women, justify slavery and not welcome divorced people." Thinking does change, he said, and "it's not a matter of if, but when people will accept homosexuality" in the highest ranks of the church.

Showed up uninvited.Skunk at a picnic,I'd say.The love that dared not speak its name won't shut up these days.
A traditionalist wing of the churchWhen a faction comprises some 90% or more of an organization you do not call it a "wing." Unless you're being dishonest.

In the good old days someone who turned up to a function uninvited was given the bum’s rush - problem nowadays is that he phrase probably has a whole different connotation and this ‘bishop’ would definately enjoy it!

A traditionalist wing of the church whose leaders include Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria, who condemns homosexuality as an abomination against God's teaching, has been so at odds with welcoming gay people and women that it held its own breakaway meeting in Jerusalem last month.Gee, this reporting isn't biased, is it? What is so hard to understand about "love the sinner, hate the sin"? Everyone is welcome, but self-justifying of sinful activity is not.

Thinking does change, he said, and "it's not a matter of if, but when people will accept homosexuality" in the highest ranks of the church. He is right about this. In fact, homosexuality has already been accepted in the highest ranks of the church. Problem is, soon the "highest ranks" will be the only ranks left. All the Christians will be gone.

has been so at odds with welcoming gay people and women that it held its own breakaway meeting in Jerusalem last month. They welcome homosexuals. They just don't welcome practicing non-repentant homosexuals.
They also don't welcome practicing, non-repentant embezzlers as church treasurers.
has been so at odds with welcoming gay people and women that it held its own breakaway meeting in Jerusalem last month.
Notice how being a woman is equated with a sinful lifestyle?

Archbishop Peter Akinola of Nigeria, who condemns homosexuality as an abomination against God's teaching, has been so at odds with welcoming gay people and women...Now, remind me, when has the good Archbishop ever not welcomed women into the church? This isn't Islam. Men and women are both welcomed to worship together in the church.
The phrasing is as ridiculous as saying "The university did not allow men" when in actuality the university didn't allow men in the women's restrooms. Context is everything.

Over the years, he said, "Scripture has been used to denigrate women, justify slavery and not welcome divorced people."Scripture can be used to justify anything if it is taken out of context and given a twist. That's exactly what the homosexuals do when they try to claim God is okay with same gender sex.
