In 1936, during the great Socialist Terror of the early months of the Civil War, the large monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the Cerro de los Ángeles, near Madrid, was attacked and demolished, a symbol of one of the harshest large-scale persecutions of the Church in History.
From one of the stones of the demolished statue, a small sculpture of the Sacred Heart was sculpted and placed in the public garden outside the Parish Church of San Antonio de la Florida, in Madrid - otherwise a very famous building due to the extensive paintings of Francisco Goya in its cupola.
Last Monday (or on early Tuesday), the small statue of the Sacred Heart was torn down and beheaded. One new step in the battle of the forces of secularism (and its vandals) against the Church in Spain, a sign of things to come.

I think it’s ok to answer this one. A Marian church is typically one that is named “Our Lady Of...” Mine is Our Lady of Walsingham. These churches simply have a bit of a special devotion to her. We have a shrine to her near the back of the property. THere is a statue of Mary with the Child Jesus, a fountain... it’s just a nice place to sit, and sometimes we process there on special feast days. Vandals have smashed the statue on several occasions. It’s unfortunate, but most unfortunate for those who have such hate in their hearts.

We have a statue of Mary in a little grotto in the front yard of the rectory. A year or so ago someone took her, she was missing for months until the police raided a drug house and found her thrown in the backyard.
I guess she was praying for them because they got caught and maybe they’ll get clean in jail.
