When Gov. Alfred E. Smith ran for president in 1928, his candidacy was derailed in large part by anti-Catholic prejudice. It has been nearly 48 years since John F. Kennedy became the first (and so far only) Roman Catholic president, but experts say that anti-Catholic sentiment much of it originating in, or as a response to, immigrants in New York remains an enduring force in American culture.
That was the consensus of a panel assembled at the Museum of the City of New York on Tuesday night to consider the question, Is Anti-Catholicism Dead?
...The Rev. Richard John Neuhaus a leading conservative intellectual, a former Lutheran pastor and the editor of the leading Catholic journal First Things offered a surprising view on the question.
To be a Catholic is not to be refused positions of influence in our society, he said. Indeed, one of the most acceptable things is to be a bad Catholic, and in the view of many people, the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic.
...He added that anti-Catholicism was as likely to come from the left sometimes from commentators who believe that a threatening theological insurgency is engineered and directed by Catholics, with evangelical Protestants merely as the movements foot soldiers.

And for me as well!
Why DO protestants engage in ritual child sacrifice?
Sorry, I don’t live on FR. I’ve been working VBS all week and didn’t get pinged to this thread until today. Get a life.
YEP.
Mary, Mary, Catholics have nothing at all against the Bible. We just like the complete Bible and not the one with some missing books that most Protestants use. (Although some Protestants have shared that they also use the complete Bible — KJV with the additional books added at the end.) Trouble is — there are still mis-translations in the KJV due to Luther.

Nothing. It is the inspired Word of God that, together with Sacred Tradition, gives us the fullness of Divine Revelation.
You said: Its our only true authority...
That is where the heresy starts. Sacred Tradition is the other pillar of Truth.
You said: you either ignore it or spin it to say what you wish it to say.
Protestants appear to have mastered that skill.
We just finished our VBS Friday and it was wonderful. We had eight churches represented. It was mostly our own but several other folks joined us. It was a blessing. The only ones who won’t fellowship with us are some fundamentals, but they sure miss out on some good stuff.
No, Petronski. YOU are wrong on this one. Mary can’t do one thing to help. She’s dead, Jim.
She’s not dead. The Saints and the Mother of God live. They are with God in Heaven.
I’m pleased for all of you! Our Scout troops run through the summer, so we haven’t worked/attended VBS in several years. I keep saying, “Maybe next year!”
I would sign the kids up (and bring cookies!) for VBS at one of the local Protestant churches, but they’re all holding VBS in the late evening. We put our under-10 kids to bed by 8:00, but the VBS programs run until 8:30 or 9:00.

Heresy! She, and all others who form the “great cloud of witnesses” are much more alive than you and I.
It’s not hatred, Twink. We disagree with some of the doctrines of the Catholic church but I do care about my Catholic friends. I’m married to a former Catholic.
I know people pray the Rosary. If it brings comfort, fine. If you think it will save you, then it’s not so fine. I’m sure your mother, and you, are devoted to Christ and your church. Nobody disputes that. A living example is the BEST example of a life hid in Christ. I admire that no matter what church we belong to. It’s the extra-Biblical dogma that divides us. If we stick to scripture and to Jesus, we have no problems with doctrine. God bless. Mary
What arrogance.
Oh, I think I can read it okay, Petronski. I just don’t believe she was assumed or ascended. Doesn’t matter which term you use, it’s false.

God bless you for that!!

Been trying to do that since I retired from the Army a few years ago. Thanks for your encouragement.
Sure, BOF. Sure.
Hmm, tell me, WHY?
You said: What arrogance.
Testimony to the Truth of Jesus Christ is never arrogant, although many reject it.
Otay, spanky. If you believe that, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you—cheap.
