Is Anti-Catholicism Dead? (Ques. Proposed by NY Times)
NY Times City Room Blog ^ | 7/23/2008 | Sewell Chan

When Gov. Alfred E. Smith ran for president in 1928, his candidacy was derailed in large part by anti-Catholic prejudice. It has been nearly 48 years since John F. Kennedy became the first (and so far only) Roman Catholic president, but experts say that anti-Catholic sentiment — much of it originating in, or as a response to, immigrants in New York — remains an enduring force in American culture.

That was the consensus of a panel assembled at the Museum of the City of New York on Tuesday night to consider the question, “Is Anti-Catholicism Dead?

...The Rev. Richard John Neuhaus — a leading conservative intellectual, a former Lutheran pastor and the editor of the leading Catholic journal First Things — offered a surprising view on the question.

“To be a Catholic is not to be refused positions of influence in our society,” he said. “Indeed, one of the most acceptable things is to be a bad Catholic, and in the view of many people, the only good Catholic is a bad Catholic.”

...He added that anti-Catholicism was as likely to come from the left — sometimes from commentators who believe that a “threatening theological insurgency is engineered and directed by Catholics,” with evangelical Protestants merely as the movement’s “foot soldiers.”

We obtain the word from the French jugement, with the "d" being added to make it clear it is not pronounced "zhoozh-mon." The middle "e" is in the original.

The "judgement" spelling is more common in British English, while the "judgment" spelling is more common in American English. Neither is improper in either country.

Neither "alternate" nor "secondary" means improper.

Stomping on someone's spelling errors is a sign you're out of ideas. Doing so while making spelling errors of your own is, hilarious. Doing so falsely on top of it?

Priceless.

You're quite contemporary. Obviously you prefer to change with the times.

You're quite out of arguments, and a bit nervous about it.

Despite my shock and amazement and the expression of an opinion which I have never heard before AND my astonishment and the carefully reasoned (dare I say, "Parsed?" Nah, something about fools and angels) I will now demonstrate (heh heh) the method of argument used by the neo-nominalists, This is JUST a demonstrations, but I AM a trained professional. Do NOT attempt this at home.
Mary is not the "Queen of heaven."

Is TOO!

And to believe such a lie leaves one vulnerable to believing other lies, like Mary supposedly being born without the stain of original sin or Mary being bodily assumed into heaven, or Mary being a mediator between God and men when Christ is the only mediator.

Is NOT!

Your tag illustrates this pitfall perfectly.

Does NOT!

Flee from idolatry.

I'm rubber, you're glue.
It bounces off me and sticks to you.

We're waiting for the judges now. The cards are going up. Fortunately the lowest score will be eliminated, so the ruling of the judge from Geneva will not count.

And here we go:

Form: 9.5
Degree of difficulty: zip.

You said: You’re quite out of arguments, and a bit nervous about it.

Quite to the contrary, they will just keep puking up the same demonstrably false assertions and defective theology in a manner as if they were trying out for Linda Blair’s role in the Exorcist.

Hopefully you'll note that if you use Free Republic's spell checker on "judgement" the word comes up misspelled and the correct spelling of "judgment" is offered.

Spell "judgment" as incorrectly as you please. It will only further deflate your argument (or "arguement" as you may well choose.)

Meanwhile, telling someone they are damned to hell because they don't believe in Rome's "Marian dogma" is satanic and reveals a true lack of spiritual discernment and judgment.

**We're waiting for the judges now.**

And one of the answers is:

"Never apologize for the Blessed Virgin Mary!"

LOL!

THIS is your authority?

LOLOL

Spell "judgment" as incorrectly as you please.

I have not done so yet, as the word can be spelled either way.

It will only further deflate your argument (or "arguement" as you may well choose.)

You're deep in a hole. First step: stop digging.

Meanwhile, telling someone they are damned to hell because they don't believe in Rome's "Marian dogma" is satanic and reveals a true lack of spiritual discernment and judgment.

Finally giving up on the "judgment/judgement thing is wise.

Still, I wasn't aware that the capital city of Italy had a Marian dogma.

Putting words in someone's mouth and twisting their meaning in that manner is false witness.

That approach reminds me of another movie role:

You might want to stick with "mother."

What is that about "assume"?

I read in another post that you misspelled the word. I went to the page and used my search function. You don't think I actually READ that post, do you?

As a rule I think it good to avoid reading nonsense.
