Your story reminded me of another from St. Faustina.

Pray as much as you can for the dying. By your entreaties, obtain for them trust in My mercy, because they have most need of trust, and have it the least. Be assured that the grace of eternal salvation for certain souls in their final moment depends on your prayer. You know the whole abyss of My mercy, so draw upon it for yourself and especially for poor sinners. Sooner would heaven and earth turn into nothingness than would My mercy not embrace a trusting soul. (1777)

Today, the Lord came to me and said, "My daughter, help Me to save souls. You will go to a dying sinner, and you will continue to recite the chaplet, and in this way you will obtain for him trust in My mercy, for he is already in despair." Suddenly, I found myself in a strange cottage where an elderly man was dying amidst great torments. All about the bed was a multitude of demons and the family, who were crying. When I began to pray, the spirits of darkness fled, with hissing and threats directed at me. The soul became calm and, filled with trust, rested in the Lord. At the same moment, I found myself again in my own room. How this happens...I do not know. (1798)

I had had the chest pains the day before, and I felt I could safely get to the emergency room riding a bicycle the next day (which is how I got to the hospital).

Uh, dude. Just because you made it doesn't mean it was safe.

I hope we can all recognize this as an example of what NOT to do.

It happens more than people think.

I know what you mean -- I can "consider exercise" for hours -- < g >

Glad to hear that they caught it in time . . . you won't be very comfortable for awhile, but I think you'll be surprised at how much better you feel! My dad went through the same thing a little while ago. Heart problems run in his family too.

Now DO try to do exactly what the docs tell you!

My mother’s uncle had a similar experience about 6 months before he passed away. His granddaughter came to see him and told him she would come back for him. She had died several years earlier in a car accident.

They were definitely not RC.

My neighbor told me a story about his Dad’s last hours, His father was a soldier in WWII and hardly talked to him about anything, in his last hours he talked with his father for what seemed like more than he had in his entire life. His father had serious doubts that he could go to heaven. When he would enter the room after stepping out for a moment his father would ask “who was that beautiful woman in white holding my hand” I told him it had to be Mary.

Fr. Corapi talks about it here in his story.

And today the party that improperly garnished the money out of her account began proceedings to return the amount. Prayers answered!

I agree. It was very foolish, but I tried to go at a very slow pace -- even for a bicycle.

But one can use "granny gears" on a bicycle. It makes it more like walking, and is not as stressful.

I tried very hard not to break a sweat and not have an elevated heartrate.

There was a city bus along the route with a bike carrier, but I had the misfortune of missing the bus.

My mother is old, and I did not want anyone in my family to alarm other family members.

I was hoping that God would protect a fool like me.

At least you were better than my mom. She’s also a retired nurse, as I am. She was having V-fib (ventricular fibrillation) and DROVE herself to the hospital, because it would be too embarrassing to have the ambulance come.

*sheesh*

We ALL told her what kind of bad idea that was. I don’t think she’ll do it again, plus she is moving into a very nice assisted living apartment, next month, thank the Lord.

That gave me goose bumps and tears.

The father of a friend of mine was dying of lung cancer. It was obvious that his time was near and she was sitting next to him on one side and his SIL was on the other side holding his hand. He closed his eyes and breathed his last breath and the two on either side just looked at each other and quietly said, “he’s gone”

Then my friend’s aunt asked, “Do you hear that?” It was “How Great Thou Art” My friend’s grandson was watching a movie that had a church scene in it and it came on just as he died. No one thought it was a coincedence.
