Bible Publishers Sued for Anti-Gay References

Michigan man is seeking $70 million from two Christian publishers for emotional distress and mental instability he received during the past 20 years from versions of the Bible that refer to homosexuality as a sin.

Bradley LaShawn Fowler, a gay man, claims his constitutional rights were infringed upon by Zondervan Publishing Co. and Thomas Nelson Publishing, both of which, he claims, deliberately caused homosexuals to suffer by misinterpretation of the Bible.

Fowler, 39, is seeking $60 million from Zondervan and another $10 million from Thomas Nelson.

According to a USA Today report, Fowler’s two separate suits against the publishers claim the intent of the Bible revisions that refer to homosexuals as sinners reflect an individual opinion or a group's conclusion.

Fowler says the deliberate changes made to first Corinthians, chapter six, verse nine caused him "or anyone who is a homosexual to endure verbal abuse, discrimination, episodes of hate, and physical violence ... including murder."

Fowler, who is representing himself in both lawsuits, claims the publishers are misinterpreting the Bible by specifically using the word homosexuals, which made him an outcast from his family and contributed to physical discomfort and periods of demoralization, chaos and bewilderment.

“These are opinions based on the publishers and they are being embedded in the religious structure as a way of life," he tells a local NBC TV station affiliate in Grand Rapids.

Fowler admits that every Bible printed is a translation that can be interpreted in many ways, but he says specifically using the word “homosexual” is not a translation but a change.

Islam is not the only 'religion' that demands obedience from non-adherents. Apparently the various strains of Progressivism also demand that all religions pay homage to them.

If he thinks he’s suffering emotional distress and mental instability now, just wait until the afterlife. I pray he finds salvation sometime soon.

So this liberal will next sue companies that print the Qu’ran, the Bhagavad-Gita, (and other Hindu texts), those that publish the Torah, and those that publish Buddhic texts?

They all condemn homosexuality as a sin.

BTW, don't liberals like him believe in religious free speech and free speech in general?

I thought that libs believed in “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Amen to that. Sometimes we need to see past the red of our fury and remember just how very tragic this is gonna end up for these people.

Apparently the very clear message sent to Sodom and Gommorah just did not get through to this person.

Regardless of any 'success' this person may have in the courts of this world, they will face a higher judge in the end.

No, I think the issue is that the Bible is the one that his family read and thereby “tore his family apart causing distress”. Unless his family read the Koran, suing them would be meaningless.

That being said, this guy is a loon.

He is representing himself because not even the ACLU would represent him. This won’t make it past a motion for summary dismissal with prejudice.

“..deliberately caused homosexuals to suffer by misinterpretation of the Bible.”

Then don’t misinterpret it and read and understand it correctly. (I can just see and ACLU lawyer drooling to take this case.)

“and contributed to physical discomfort ...”

I don’t think that was from the Bible.... at least I hope it wasn’t.

He ought to be suing his parents not the publishing company.

Surely his middle name of "LaShawn" had something to do with his gayness.

;-)

I'm not familiar with the translations in question, but any honest translation is going to present the same problem.

The Greek term is arsenokoitai (translated by St. Jerome as masculorum concubitores).

Maybe the Red Cross's term "men who have sex with men" could be used.

The other groups targeted by St. Paul should join in the lawsuit--drunks, adulterers, idolators, etc. Surely their feelings are hurt too.

Not trying to bag on you personally. The printing companies and the publishing companies have been changing the bible and history for centuries...

They changed the true meaning of the Korean War... They bluntly stated that they had attacked us first... But in reality they lied... We were never attacked, and it’s on record that the only reason they the president and the cabinet started the lie because they needed the support of the US citizens at the time...
Or how about the time they changed the real meaning of the Trojan War...

When fair Helen was taken by Paris, the Trojan prince, and all of Greece rose up to return her to her rightful home, golden-haired Achilles led the Greek armies in the siege of Troy, and fought well for nine years, but time came when he refused to fight besides the other heroes. Agamemnon, the Greek general, had taken lovely Briseis away from him by force, the girl which had fallen to his lot as spoils of war and was his favorite slave. “Go ahead, Agamemnon, rob me of my rightful prize,” said Achilles, his heart black with anger, “but know that the Greeks shall look for me in their hour of need, and shall not find me!” And so brave Achilles sat in his tent as the fighting raged on the battlefield, and as hero after hero perished under the attacks of Hector, the Trojan general, and his troops. And the Greeks would have perished to the last man, had not Achilles been stirred by one thing and one thing only: his love for Patroclus, his bosom friend and lover. Only when his partner was torn from him by death did he return to the field of battle, to avenge him whom he cherished above all others

So all of you just give it up... Homosexuality is not a sin... It’s not a choice... It’s how we were made... It is our destiny... It’s our divine right as a human, to act out and be free to be whom we are...
“I’m Happy, Carefree, and Gay, I was born this way”
It’s NOT a choice and for you who believe that it’s a choice... Tell me,
When did you decide to be straight?
