The Case for choices within the Roman Catholic Church is a very important not only for the Church Hierarchy but for all catholic people active or lapsed. Fact we have amalgamations and or closing down of churches in Europe and America on a grand scale exception is Poland who have seen a growth both to the Roman Catholic Church and the National Catholic church which Rome does recognise as valid. Anglican Clergy can do a quick conversion course and receive Catholic Orders along with his wife and kids. However if Fr o flattery dares to have an affair out he goes, loss of wages and home as well. However according to one current case of a Dundee Monsignor it is God who pays his wages not the Church so you cannot sue the Church. This is by solicitors acting for dundee diocese. However for myself as a Canon Law Doctor it will be interesting when it goes to the House of Peers. I pray that the good Monsignor will not make public via the tabloids his collections as the Vatican Enforcer but instead write a quality book. I for one as a Roman Catholic priest would love to receive a copy as it will no doubt make some interesting bed or bath time reading. Yes, i do prepare my Sunday sermons in my bath. However it is above the water line before you ask! Priest are men gay or hetro and have desires normal or perhaps not quite so normal depending on your orientation. However priests, pastors or ministers who use their position to molest children or vulnerable people of both sexes know in their heart where they are likely to end up when we cross over that great divide. All churches of all christian brand name should put their house in order over this. Married men with a wife and family is ideal says any church. The Greek, Coptic, Anglican Old Catholic, Russian have them why not in Gods Name can the Roman Catholic have them. Married Priests. God Bless Fr Dr Bernard
XD yes, they contradict eachother. That’s why the Catholics kept it, still keep it, and held it together so that other Christians can now use it.
It’s STILL a choice. Priests choose not to be married when they choose to be priests. Otherwise, they wouldn’t become priests. It is part of the choice, to devote yourself entirely and be married to God or to choose a different vocation. Either is a celebrated choice.
I didn’t say the bible said, “Don’t eat meat on Wednesdays and Fridays guys, during lent, because it’s not cool!” I said that lent is not in contradiction with Timothy. It’s not a deed to please the church. They’re not keeping tabs of who’s doing it, and they’re not arbitrarily going, “Do this you guys it’s cool!” I personally get a lot out of lent and feel closer to God during that time because of some of the things I do, but if you’re not Catholic, cool for you.
If you think structured prayer is a vain repetition, then you might not understand how to do it properly. Perhaps you were once Catholic and whoever taught you never explained it, or perhaps you’ve never tried it. Either way, I agree that a vain repetition does nothing, but that doesn’t include structured prayer.
You’ll notice I never once tried to convert you or knock your religion. Or maybe you don’t notice that, I’m not quite sure. Bottom line though, choose to interpret the bible how you wish to interpret it, and if you choose to read the words to decide Catholicism and the bible contradict, that is how you’ve chosen to interpret it. As for me, I’ll stick to the bible myself as well. It hasn’t steered me wrong so far.
***.....so lacking in knowledge on the few number of married Anglican clergy crossing the Tiber.***
“Few?” Based on threads that appear here daily I would have thought that there wasn’t an Anglican priest left anywhere on this planet. I had visions of priests, not unlike a herd of rabid lemmings, stampeding the Tiber.
Depending on how one defines the word “priest”, there may not be any in any church on the entire planet! (Ref: Hebrews chapter 8). If men (and women) insist on calling themselves “priests” to other people, they must be priests of a phony baloney non-Christian pseudo religion.
Welcome to July 4th weekend.
Chap. 4 Ver. 3 "Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats. He speaks of the Gnostics, the Marcionites, the Encratites, the Manicheans, and other ancient heretics, who absolutely condemned marriage and the use of all kind of meat; because they pretended that all flesh was from an evil principle. Whereas the Church of God, so far from condemning marriage, holds it a holy sacrament and forbids it to none but such as by vow have chosen the better part: and prohibits not the use of any meats whatsoever in proper times and seasons, though she does not judge all kind of diet proper for days of fasting and penance." St. Jerome commentary on The First Epistle of St. Paul to Timothy, 4th century AD.
If you would have said rabid collared lemmings I might have found your comment humorous-especially since you pinged a whole herd of lemmings in the hope they'd follow you off the bait another Catholic cliff.
Wow. Well, my Brothers and Sisters. I really must thank you for such a response. Apart from a few good souls i would say (i hope not in error) that you lack Charity and as for the soul who suggested that the Episcopal church is just down the road this is especially true. At the end of our day when we reach the pearly gates when will be asked what did you do in life for ALL my children on earth (not the selected ones along denominational lines or even faiths). Roman Catholics as we are must lean that being a catholic is worlds away from been a Christian. So get down from you high horse and lets see who can feed the poor first. Words are powerful but they do not feed empty tum tums. Dr Fr Bernard Roman Catholic Priest Ordained 1960

DIOCESE OF DUNKELD OFFICIAL STATEMENT
‘Bishop Vincent Logan has suspended Mgr Joseph Creegan from the exercise of his priesthood with immediate effect. This follows information Bishop Logan received on Friday about Mgr Creegan’s relationship with a woman over a number of years. Bishop Logan acted as soon as he was given specific and irrefutable evidence about the allegations which had been made earlier. Mgr Creegan has accepted the decision. Bishop Logan deeply regrets any hurt and upset which has been caused to people by Mgr Creegan’s conduct over the years.”

The pathetic thing is that his first mistress-the married one, not the divorcee- describes him as if he is some Svengali with animal magnetism powers over women.
Looking at pictures of the guy, he just looks like a dumpy old coot.
Dr Fr Bernard?
Uh: Few Catholic priests use the monikier “Dr”...usually that’s done by ministers. Similarly, few Catholic priests address their people as “brothers and sisters”. That is mainly done in protestant churches.Again, catholics rare talk about being “catholic not christian”. Again, a fundamentalist type of rhetoric.
Again I say: You’re not a priest so go away.
Thank you for your welcome. The poem you posted is excellent. Nearly 80 now but a wonderful life behind me. Forty years on the Missions and it looks as i will need another 40 to bring all these bitter but loyal catholic into the christian faith. This faith is made up of two principles only love God and your neighbour. Deacons by the way carry out most of the functions including Altar Services. Communion. Marriage Services Burials, Baptisms, Counselling are we going to see them as second class clerics because they are married? Think very carefully good people before you reply because if you do not practise charity the Devil has you already in his back pocket. Blessings Fr Bernard
