I had a wonderful Dad. He only spanked me once - one swift slap on my behind, and I stopped my temper tantrum really fast.

I lost him when I was 11 years, 1 month old. He had a sudden heart attack and died one week later. For the next year everything seemed grey to me. I honestly cannot remember the sun shining that year. All I remember is pain in losing him. I would have given everything I owned to just speak to him one more time; to hear his words of wisdom, and share our affection for one another. My six older siblings also felt likewise about our Dad.

I get so angry at silly sociologists who downplay the importance of fatherhood. I say, ask any child who lost a parent at a young age, and they would shut up those idiots very quickly. Father’s day is so bittersweet to me. I never knew my Dad as an adult, only as a child. So, Dad, if you are up there and reading this, I love you still, a whole lot. Someday, I hope I can see you again in the great blue yonder.
