With all the remarks from fellow Catholics, it would seen that an Ecumenical thread would be a better choice than an OPEN thread.

On an Ecumenical thread, people can offer the points they disagree with in a congeinial manner, but they may NOT disparage another religion or be antagonistic in their remarks.

Thoughts from all????

I would be interested in such a thread....I also think that having such a thread would be best as an Ecumenical thread....in that way, the Catholics can present their Catechism, present their point of view, and those who disagree with that, could post why they disagree with that, and present their point of view, in a civil and enlightening manner...

Hopefully in that way, the other posters, and possible lurkers, can get information without all the distractions that often go on, on the open threads....

If each poster can present their point of view, without being disparaging of other folks religions, that would be great, for me...simply because I dont consider what Catholics might say about any particular non-Catholic’s religion to be reliable, any more, that I consider what non-Catholics say about the Catholic religion to be reliable...I like to get my information, from those who have studied their particular religion, and practice their particular religion....I mean, if I want to get my heart checked out, I go to a cardiologist, I dont go to a plastic surgeon...and I see a lot of this type of back and forth on the open threads...

I want to know what the Catholics know to be their religion, I dont want to concern my self with what the non-Catholics think they know about the Catholic religion....and the opposite is true...I want to know what the non-Catholics know to be their religion, not what the Catholics think they know about the non-Catholic religion...

I mean, just one instance stands out from the open threads...if I was to believe what the non-Catholics say about their Catholics, I would have to believe, that Catholics never read their Bibles...which I personally know to be quite untrue, as I know lots of Catholics in real life who read and study their Bibles daily...on the other hand, if I was to believe what Catholics, say about non-Catholics, I would have to believe that non-Catholics go so far as to make the Bible a type of idol...again, untrue, as I know plenty of non-Catholics who read and study their Bible daily, but do not make an idol of it....

To me, it is just completely unreliable to know what Catholics believe, when the opinion comes from a Non-Catholic, and it is just as unreliable to know what non-Catholics believe, when the opinion comes from Catholic...

If all sides, could just present their point of view, from their own knowledge, personal experience, study, etc. that would be informative and most likely enlightening for many here....in that way, all sides of the discussion, would have their point of view in plain sight for all the others to examine...and surely, all sides should be able to present what they believe, without disparaging others...

Disparaging those of other religions, making up falsehoods about other religions, making fun of those of other religions, is never useful, as least not for me...I am sure, others would disagree with me about that, but my one solitary vote, would be to have this discussion in an Ecumenical thread...For those that wish to mock those of other religions, for those that want to make up falsehoods about other religions, for those who want to be disparaging of other religions, there are always plenty of open threads for that...

However, whatever is decided is fine with me...

I will be interested to see how this all plays out...
