Bush to meet with LDS leadersPresident Bush chatted for nearly an hour Thursday with LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson about issues including U.S. foreign policy, Middle East peace, the economy and energy, according to White House press secretary Dana Perino.

The Mormon leader also mentioned his long-standing friendship with Bush's parents, Perino said.

The meeting at Monson's office in the LDS Church Administration Building in downtown Salt Lake City began around 8:30 a.m. At about 9:40 a.m., Bush's motorcade emerged from underground parking on North Temple and headed straight for the airport.

The courtesy call was Bush's first meeting with Monson and his two counselors, Henry B. Eyring and Dieter President Bush waves as he disembarks Marine One Thursday in Salt Lake City for a meeting with Mormon church leaders. The president visited Utah for two fundraisers Wednesday on behalf of Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. (Douglas C. Pizac/The Associated Press)F. Uchtdorf, since they were installed in February after the death of President Gordon B. Hinckley.

Monson, who was first counselor to Hinckley in the governing First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was present during 2005 and 2006 meetings between Bush and Mormon leaders. In 2002, Monson joined Hinckley in greeting Bush before he attended the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympic Games.

On Wednesday, Monson, Uchtdorf and Julie B. Beck, general president of the church's women's Relief Society, got a personal tour of Air Force One. "He meets with [the First Presidency] regularly and thinks that they have a good role to play in America, in terms of spreading the word of love," Perino said Wednesday. "I don't think the president would ever pass up an opportunity to meet with the president of the Mormon church." pstack@sltrib.com

FWIW, I am a mason, and that is not a masonic handshake.

Bush only used one finger.

The other pic you posted shows two.

Hey, at least he didn't don a green apron and a bakers hat. That would have been unsettling.

Personally I like the President but sometimes his need to get along just irks me to death. It is another example of him being sucked into acceptance of another cult.

Oh goodie. Another anti Mormon conspiracy out of the air. Perhaps Mike Leavitt, on Bush's Cabinet, brainwashed him into the visit. /sarc

You'll have to go back much farther than GW to find the root of this great presidential/Mormon conspiracy. Start with one of the greatest Presidents to ever serve our great nation.

"Ronald Reagan truly admired the Latter-day Saints. His administration included more members of the Church than any other American president, ever. Three of us, David Fischer, Gregory Newell and I, served on his personal White House staff. Richard Wirthlin was his chief strategist. Ted Bell served as Secretary of Education, Angela Buchanan was Treasurer, Rex Lee was Solicitor General. His White House included Roger Porter, Brent Scowcroft, Richard Beal, Blake Parish, Jon Huntsman Jr., Dodie Borup and Rocky Kuonen, and there were many other Latter-day Saints throughout his Administration. President Thomas S. Monson served on a Presidential Commission on Volunteerism. Others were ambassadors. LDS senators and representatives were held in special regard, and the Tabernacle Choir was his special inaugural guest." -Stephen M. Studdert, Special Assistant to President Reagan

And keep going back. Did you know that President Eisenhower asked then Apostle, who later became the President of the Church, Elder Ezra T. Benson, to serve as his Secretary of Agriculture? He did so. He was reluctant to mix Church and State but President McKay urged him to accept. He served with honor and integrity for the entire eight years of Eisenhower's two terms. Imagine that, a sitting LDS Apostle, serving in a Presidential cabinet position.

The conspiracy continues.... The Mormon Tabernacle Choir has sung at every Inauguration since Reagan, and Reagan himself dubbed it "America's Choir"

Good thing Mitt didn't get in, you guys would go nuts. I can see your actions if a "President Mitt" popped a visit like the this, but come on. Virtually every single President in modern history has visited with the Church leadership in Salt Lake. Many have even spoke from the Tabernacle pulpit.

This is a funny thread.

Dude, can you shed any light on this secret handshake, being a former LDS insider?

My response is so?
There have been many great men who have been fooled and there will continue to be great men who are fooled.

And my response is that I value the judgment of great Presidents who follow the Saviors council to judge men by their fruits, over those on FR who judge men by their roots after digging in the dirt.

There's a reason so many Mormons are in high positions. There's a reason the FBI and CIA recruit so heavily from BYU.

I bet you hate it that Glenn Beck is the third most listened to show behind Rush and Hannity. How could so many Americans be “fooled” as you say.

It's the fruits man.

You might want to brush up on how many Mormons in public life there actually are. Check out the political pages, vewy interesting.

Pft, here we go with another Anti-Mormon Anti-Masonic conspiracy.

I am both an LDS and a Freemason. Who cares if it is or isnt a Masonic handshake, or a Preasthood shake? big deal. Neither would I admit either way. Good luck to em. There is nothing wrong with the LDS Church or Freemasonry. The world would do better to have more of us.

Get over it.

There is nothing wrong with the LDS Church or Freemasonry.

thats half the attitude of armchair Sunday sitters, thier theology and discernment are sorely lacking

we have a God who tore the temple curtain from the top down to signify its openness.....then why the secrecy?

one simple question:...was Jesus Christ God from all eternity, or did he become a God at some point in time?

After folks get through perusing the "famous" mormons, they can learn a LOT about the behind-the-scenes mormon influence on the government by reading this interesting article: Suzan Mazur: Bush And The Mormons

Very interesting information on the Bushes and the mormons and also info on the FLDS and the state of Utah.

It's the fruits man

this demonstrates how screwed the theology is. The Scriptures speaks to fruits done in the Spirit - not to what man has attained through his own doing / education

so God would call the politicians to be worldly?

lousy exegesis.......

and what translation ? - oh thats right

From the newbie:

One can follow Christ and be a practitioner of magick. The Gnostic Approach is the correct and oldest form of Christianity and Joseph Smith knew this. A witches coven is made of twelve Disciples and one Master; Christ had twelve disciples and was their master...the 13th. He followed the magickal way and understood the craft laid down by His Father. Bellow I will show proof of the way, and how at times these things would became corrupted, thus, giving witchcraft a bad name...

Sevenbak are you sure you want to keep praising this newbie?

Was Christ a coven leader of a gang of gnostic witches from Israel? Is that what Mormons believe?
