It doesn’t matter what you say or how you explain it. I still believe Protestants worship the Bible. I’ve seen it with my own eyes! The open Bible is front and center on the table right below the pulpit. All worship centers around this collection of pieces of paper. Protestants always have one in their hands and never go to church without theirs. It’s all-Bible, all-the-time, and the bigger, the better. I’ve seen people put one hand on the Bible and stretch their other hand out in prayer. It sure looks to me like they think the Bible does possess intrinsic holiness, not unlike a relic. And it looks to me like they worship it.

That's just the way it looks through your Catholic lens. < /sarc>

Yep, you called it, nanetteclaret. Eck, why do Calvinists invest magic power in their bibles? That's paganism. Remember, I'm not misrepresenting your beliefs, I'm just disagreeing with you.

It's really remarkable that Protestants believe that the inspired word of God resides under the accidents of a dead tree and some ink, or that the soul resides beneath the accidents of the human form, but they can't abide the body, blood, and divinity of Christ residing under the accidents of bread and wine. For them, Transubstantiation, apparently, is the only thing in the universe impossible for God.

That’s interesting.

The Protestants that I know turn to the Bible when they have a question as to the nature of God. Christians have these questions routinely and can find solace in knowing that God’s Word is found within easy access. That is one of the joys of living in a society where such a powerful book can be owned freely.

The church I attend does not have a Bible set below the pulpit. There are only flowers there.

And generally these churches do not even have Bibles in their pews, because most Christians do have a Bible of their own which they would rather use.

I have never seen anyone touch the Bible like it is a talisman.

In fact, I’ve found it easy to attend church without one in my hand. If I listen to the sermon closely, I have no need to read the words to follow along.

When I pray to the Lord I do not hold the Bible in my hand. I pray to him in quiet reverence, without a need for a guidebook. He can still hear me clearly.
