Hello fellow Freepers. I believe this is my first post on the Religion forum.
Over the past week or so, I put some thought into something I've been pondering for a while; my spiritual welfare. As it was, I had been part of the 'Sola Scriptua' school of thought (Evangelical Christian). By the Bible and only the Bible. Sounded good enough.
Well...what about before the Bible was put into word? It stuck in my head when reading an article earlier on FR concerning a deconstruction of Sola Scriptura and its inherent weaknesses as a foundation for one's faith.
This, combined with a genuine lack of churchgoing (as a family, we've been uncertain about going to various churches, given that top-down problems with Episcopal/Methodist/etc. churches and their increasing liberalization are a genuine problem for one's spiritual welfare), compelled me to make a decision.
I don't know if my family will follow me, persay, but I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge.
Next month, I'm going to the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle near my home, and I'm joining the Roman Catholic Church.
As is, I have a few volumes of the Magnificat pamphlet and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to read.
Any other pointers from other Catholic Freepers?
No, the "context" is someone who three years ago was making "pope pings" and one year ago making "catholic pings" who now tells us he's "thinking of becoming a Catholic."
It doesn't matter that you've stopped using one account for another. Both accounts are still active. And it's against FR rules to hold two accounts. Get it?
You have one account under the name Ultra Sonic and another account under the name Ultra Sonic 007.
One of them should be deleted.
Or else we could all have a dozen accounts under various names to be used whenever we pleased.
Not to me.
According to the rules of Free Republic we are not to have two open accounts.
Do the rules apply to you, too?
What do Catholics think John 1 means?
We’ll worry about that when required. Thanks.
Self-analysis is a step in the right direction.
But apparently some don't think they have to abide by the rules.
Are we allowed to have two open accounts?
Is it permissible for Ultra Sonic 007 to also have another account, Ultra Sonic?
If so, maybe we could all sign up for additional accounts.
We’ll handle any police work. Thanks again.
No, they disagree.
No learning problem or personality disorder.
Just an honest, Scripturally-based disagreement.
If you forget your password, and the e-mail address used to open the FR account is no longer operative (as in the example of a person switching ISPs), how would you suggest gaining access to the prior account? How would you prove to JimRob or the Mods that you really are who you say you are, without having either your password *OR* access to the e-mail address with which you originally opened your account?
Think about it for a moment ;-)
Disagreement? Disagreement?
What happened to the Holy Spirit illuminating what's on the page for y'all?
And lose out on an opportunity to tell the teacher!
You must be kidding!
Do you not believe that the Holy Spirit illuminates the Bible to enable a person to understand the words of God? Is that a foreign concept to you?
Listen up. WE WILL HANDLE ANY POLICE WORK. Thanks.
It's not a foreign concept at all.
It is an error without biblical merit contrived by those who build doctrines on ambiguity and inference.
What do you believe is the function of the Holy Spirit?
I think the functions of the Holy Spirit are outlined in scripture. Biblical interpretation is not among them.
Congratulations! I would suggest the Catechism of the CAtholic Church as the best place to start. Also, newadvent.org to learn about the Church’s past and the heresies we’ve faced to give you (as it did for me) a strong grounding historically, while the Bible and the Catechism give the religious grounding.
