I'm joining the Catholic Church next month. Advice/Books/Etc.?

Posted on 05/28/2008 6:05:04 PM PDT by Ultra Sonic 007

Hello fellow Freepers. I believe this is my first post on the Religion forum.

Over the past week or so, I put some thought into something I've been pondering for a while; my spiritual welfare. As it was, I had been part of the 'Sola Scriptua' school of thought (Evangelical Christian). By the Bible and only the Bible. Sounded good enough.

Well...what about before the Bible was put into word? It stuck in my head when reading an article earlier on FR concerning a deconstruction of Sola Scriptura and its inherent weaknesses as a foundation for one's faith.

This, combined with a genuine lack of churchgoing (as a family, we've been uncertain about going to various churches, given that top-down problems with Episcopal/Methodist/etc. churches and their increasing liberalization are a genuine problem for one's spiritual welfare), compelled me to make a decision.

I don't know if my family will follow me, persay, but I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge.

Next month, I'm going to the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle near my home, and I'm joining the Roman Catholic Church.

As is, I have a few volumes of the Magnificat pamphlet and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to read.

Any other pointers from other Catholic Freepers?

Actually, before you attempt to prove it, define it.

What do you mean by “Pontiff?”

What do you mean by “Roman church?”

I have always found great fried chicken at Baptist churches.

Me too!

I've got to go back and see about the fried rattlesnake. ;-0

If so then it must have been in the few minutes between his baptism and his death.

Did you read #839 ?

I think not.

The answer is there for all to see.

I read 839. It does not establish what you claim. It is also sprinkled with falsehoods.

>>Actualy O-C’s prefer....<<

Actually, that is a direct quote from the DSM-IV. It’s what Psychs use to diagnose patients. If the behaviors fit the criteria of a diagnosis, that is how the diagnosis is made.

The ICD-9 code is the treatment code and used for billing.

To me, it looks absolutely like what the Mod was speaking about. And I did work Psych.

(sorry RM, I think I forgot to ping you when I quoted you)

>>I pray for your eternal soul that you are right in your guessing.<<

Honestly, I pray for you too.
I don’t assign Our Lord hardhearted emotions that would turn away sincere praise for him.

If you are lead by the Holy Spirit to do that, hey float your boat.

I’m not.

He loves me so much he sent me a loving second husband who has a true servant’s heart. How blessed is that???

It's the greatest!

I'm glad you enjoyed the posts. They were all meant in a spirit of fellowship. We are united in the body of Christ. We have so much to rejoice about.

I'm sorry, I can not help you with reading comprehension.

>>The ark was made by skilled tradesmen. Christ is the true Ark and He was not made by human hands. All who are in the Ark of Christ are saved, just like Noah and his little band<<

Yup and Our Lord didn’t mind a little Bling now and then. Those were just his words! (apologies to the Bible worshipers)
His Son deserves tons more.

I’m a believer in the prophetic and there have been many prophecies over the past few years regarding different countries.

Like what?

It would help to make it comprehensible.

My immediate reaction is that it must be in the eye of the beholder. In other words, to the atheist who considers God to be a “delusion” any practicing religious person could fit that clinical definition.

>>XS>Constantine as the first Pontiff of the Roman church condemned Passover
where Yah’shua celebrated with bread and wine and replaced it with the pagan Easter.<<

Is this what you are talking about? The unsubstantiated sentence.

Hey, read my tagline. I'm Ironmom. I am. It's written in hundreds of posts. It's a fact. Really.

I guess that's why compulsion comes in.
If one feels that the way to worship their God is to berate another, it falls under that definition of compulsion.

And yeah, it goes for atheists too. Michael Newdow who sued about God in the pledge, would be diagnosed the same way. Actions which are social inappropriate to satisfy one's own needs, fall into the OCD diagnosis.

And could cross to Borderline Personality Disorder or Narcissistic Personality Disorder, but I would need more information from the DSM-IV
