(Genesis 1:26-27.)
26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
(Genesis 5:1-2.)
1 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;
2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
Question:
God created man in his Own imige
We know what man is like.
To you, what is God like?
I’ve read the assertion that you can’t praise God and curse a person,
because you are cursing God in effigy.
I think God created Adam and Eve in His likeness and image and that, after The Fall, men are born in the image and likeness of their Earthly parents - born in sin.
Witness the 3rd verse of Gen 5:
“And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth”
Sinful people (Adam and Eve - after The Fall) cannot bear the image of God. Christ came, the exact representation of God - in His image. All who are born again are new creatures in Christ, bearing the image of God.
“God created man in his Own imige

To you, what is God like?”
To me, this is one of the most misunderstood biblical concepts. I don’t think it means that we *look like* God, with 2 eyes, 2 ears, 2 arms, etc.
I think it means that our *spiritual nature* was made in the image of God. Therefore, it doesn’t preclude reptile-like aliens on other planets, who still have God’s spiritual nature while not resembling us physically at all.
But the line about “every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” - I wonder what (or who) that refers to?
Good point. :-)
God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, the three in one.
That “image” is your inate ability to determine right and wrong, good and evil.
Your free will and sin nature makes you act against that image.
No amount of actions on your part can make you Good in the way God is Good, so you need a perfect intermediary.
From the good ol’ “Penny” Catechism:
3. To whose image and likeness did God make you?
God made me to his own image and likeness.
4. Is this likeness to God in your body, or in your soul?
This likeness to God is chiefly in my soul.
5. How is your soul like to God?
My soul is like to God because it is a spirit, and is immortal.
6. What do you mean when you say that your soul is immortal?
When I say my soul is immortal, I mean that my soul can
never die.
