Army Staff Sgt. Keith "Matt" Maupin

Having heard talk of "God hates Soldiers" protesting the funeral of hero, Matt Maupin, whose remains have been recently restored to his family, I went to the devil's den at Westboro's website and found confirmation. From Phelps' own website, which I won't link to, because I don't want to give him traffic, comes this gem:
Great American Ball Park 100 Main This is for the funeral of Army Staff Sgt. Keith M. Maupin. Thank God for another Dead Soldier! Whoohoo! That is some goodness right there!
One item that I noticed only recently comes from Matt's family, and is information they received early on about Matt's capture. In addition to the disturbing threat of someone being executed, and the military's inability to actually confirm that it was Matt was a message that the executioners permitted Matt to make. In it Matt said that all he wanted was to return to his wife and child.
The truth is that Matt had no wife or child.
Matt was signaling that he was being tortured and forced to speak. It was important for him to let his nation know that anything he said or did should be discounted.
Also significant is that Matt was taken prisoner in the Abu Ghraib region of Iraq. The media, which made a big deal of a phony, torture-atrocity at Abu Ghraib prison, in which prisoners were stripped of their clothing, has not mentioned the real atrocity of Abu Ghraib, the torture-death of an American Prisoner, SSG Matt Maupin.
This young hero deserves our support as he is laid to rest. His last known words were an attempt to uphold the dignity of his nation. What can we do for him?

Concerned Americans should consider being present with airhorns, signs, whatever, to NON-VIOLENTLY block any view or hearing of Phelps and crew.

There are so many “truths” in that one instant caught on film...
No one who has ever seen a loved one’s casket covered with that flag can EVER understand how it could be disrespected with impunity....
Half of our nation, no longer “gets it”....
Half our nation’s “citizens” have become crude, rude and ignorant of the sacrifices that have been made to give them the freedom which they use to become worthless assholes.
Hopefully President Bush will be able to attend Matt Maupin's funeral. Doubtful the WBCult would show up if Bush does, and if they tried the Secret Service would turn them back.
The Maupin Family will be in my prayers.

Thank you for the air horn advice. A PGR member contacted me by freepmail and mentioned the same thing.
My thought was to drown out the numbskulls as they shout their vitriol, but I can see your point. It wouldn’t be helpful to hurt the thing you wish to protect in the course of protesting the thing you wish to obstruct.
Please, everyone. Ignore the AIR HORN advice in the basic letter. It was something I hadn’t thought through carefully enough.
I live in the same part of town as the Maupins, just east of Cincinnati. The community support for them in the entire tri-state area is tremendous. They were asked to be in the Reds opening day parade and were warmly welcomed. They even have support from the local media. Many thousands of people are expected to turn out for Matt’s funeral and they have had to increase the size of the venue several times. You can’t get much bigger than a MLB stadium.
It would be very foolish of them to protest his funeral considering the strong tri-state support for the Maupins and the expected attendance.
I would love to attend this counter-protest for this young man and his family, but unfortunately I can’t. I will be there in prayer and in the spirit though, that you all will outnumber this un-holy group and protect Matt’s family and friends from further grief and anger. Be safe!! Those people are crazy and no telling what they could do if angry enough!
