Martin Luther: Hitler's Spiritual Ancestor
Catholic Apologetics ^ | Peter F. Wiener

Posted on 03/15/2008 10:17:55 AM PDT by big'ol_freeper

More than once during these talks I referred to Luther and what always occurred to me as his destructive influence. I pointed out that even in such an admirable book as Rohan Butler's “The Roots of National Socialism” the spiritual origins of Nazism and Luther's influence had not been given the necessary importance. Then I was asked if I would be prepared to elaborate to them—about a dozen of the very senior boys, that is—my own views on Luther and Lutheranism. I agreed—with the proviso that they would be my own views and nothing else. Admittedly, I had read more on Luther and about Luther than on most other subjects. But I wanted to make it quite clear that I would not speak to them with the voice of a great authority, but would merely give them my own interpretation. I told them, moreover, that I should try to prove how dangerous it is to accept legends; and that the picture I had of Luther and his influence was thoroughly contradictory of the customary Luther of the legend.

I do

How do I know you do?

How do you know you do?

How do you know I don't? (By the way, lest you think I'm asking you a trick question: you clearly have no idea whether I do or not.)

Hitler was first self-excommunicated (it’s called latae sententiae), and was later excommunicated as a Nazi. All Nazis were excommunicated in the early 1930s by the German bishops.

It’s been explained on this thread and virtually all the others like it.

“Born, raised and practicing is the criteria for credibility...”

“Let’s see:

Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.
Jimmy Carter
Rev. Fred Phelps
Rev. Jesse Jackson
Rev. Al Sharpton”

See, the genius of the priesthood of all believers lies in the obedience to “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you,”. These people are not part of evangelicalism which came out from the liberals and modernists.

What has the Roman Catholic Church done about Teddy Kennedy, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry and Cornwell? If it has not excommunicated (separated itself) them for their heresy, it condones it.

Now, is it proper for me to find Roman Catholicism guilty by association?

You'd be a bit late to the show. Plenty of people have been doing that on this thread already.

Bzzzzt. Wrong.

That's logically equivalent to arguing that the state's failure to prosecute so-and-so for some crime amounts to condoning the crime.

I hope you're not a lawyer.

Still no love, and little truth.

I rest my case.

“Only the Catholic Church protested against the Hitlerian onslaught on liberty. Up till then I had not been interested in the Church, but today I feel a great admiration for the Church, which alone has had the courage to struggle for spiritual truth and moral liberty.”

It has been a persistent observation in my 61 years . . .

that certain types of folks tend to not notice or else not recognize love in truth even when it slaps them upside the head or trips them because of chosen blindness.

I’ve been like that, at times.

One hopes to improve in that department with age and experience.

Many don’t seem to.

Have those very liberal Rpman Catholics been excommunicated from the RCC for their support of abortion, for example?

I can’t say that Popes haven’t condoned homosexuality. I know they’ve condoned murder, which led to creation of the Anglican church.

Seeing as Henry VIII started that Church because the Pope would not grant him a divorce, thereby "forcing" Henry to behead several wives, your comment is absolutely laughable. Quick! Point out that Henry was Catholic before anyone actually puts two and two together!

Yes. Anyone who procures or participates in an abortion is excommunicated latae sententiae.

Ok...now I am going...really.
