NEW YORK, N.Y. (Catholic League) - Yesterday, Senator John McCain said he was very honored by Pastor John Hagees endorsement.
The Republican presidential hopeful also called Hagee the staunchest leader of our Christian evangelical movement, citing the ministers pro-Israel stance.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue addressed this today:
There are plenty of staunch evangelical leaders who are pro-Israel, but are not anti-Catholic. John Hagee is not one of them. Indeed, for the past few decades, he has waged an unrelenting war against the Catholic Church.
For example, he likes calling it The Great Whore, an apostate church, the anti-Christ, and a false cult system. To hear the bigot in his own words, click here. http://youtube.com/watch?v=uViQ0hVV57Q
Note: he isnt talking about the Buddhists.
In Hagees latest book, Jerusalem Countdown, he calls Hitler a Catholic who murdered Jews while the Catholic Church did nothing. The sell-out of Catholicism to Hitler began not with the people but with the Vatican itself, he writes.
For the record, Hitler persecuted the Catholic Church and was automatically excommunicated in 1931two years before he assumed powerwhen he acted as best man at Joseph Goebbels Protestant wedding. Hitler even bragged about his separation from the Church.
As for doing nothing about the Holocaust, Sir Martin Gilbert reminds us that Goebbels denounced Pope Pius XII for his 1942 Christmas message criticizing the Nazis (the New York Times lauded the pope for doing so in an editorial for two years in a row).
Much to Hagees chagrin, Gilbert also says that Pius XII saved three quarters of the Jews in Rome, and that more Jews were saved proportionately in Catholic countries than Protestant countries. Indeed, Israeli diplomat Pinchas Lapide credited the Catholic Church with saving 860,000 Jews. No religion can match that.

Excerpt from Hitler’s Table Talk:
“Christianity is a rebellion against natural law, a protest against nature. Taken to its logical extreme, Christianity would mean the systematic cultivation of the human failure”
Hitler was a pagan, pure and simple. His connection with the occult and more specifically, Nordic mytholgy, has been documented by secular historians. Hagee tries to splash blood on both catholics and reformed christians in his book. He also blames Luther for Hitler’s ideology. Hagee is deceitful in this regard. I have watched Hagee with my own eyes tell his church that Hitler and the SS were under the influence of the occult years ago. So he is either a liar or has a poor memory.
What the hypocritical Mr. Donahue doesn't realize is that his demand that Fundamentalist Protestants not believe that the Catholic Church is "the whore of Babylon" is the exact equivalent of Jewish demands that the Catholic Church recant its position of J*sus as sole savior, or Protestant/Orthodox demands that it drop its belief that it is the "one true church." Fundamentalist Protestants must believe the Catholic Church is "the whore of Babylon" or else become Catholics themselves. Why is this so hard to understand?
Catholics seem to have lost all sense of black and white and to have gone over to a "shades of gray" worldview. If something is wrong, it is wrong. It isn't a mistake or a big "oopsie." It's evil. Fundamentalist Protestants are attacked for using the language of conviction instead of PC-speak. Personally, I'd rather hear Catholics saying Fundamentalist Protestantism is an invention of Satan than the usual mantra about it being made up of "simple-minded bigots." The former is the language of conviction, the latter of liberalism.
I suppose it's only a matter of time before Donahue calls for all TV stations to drop Hagee's programs, even if none of them mention the Catholic Church. Meanwhile, Fundamentalist Protestant networks actually carry Catholic masses. It seems "tolerance," as usual, is a one way street.
Wideawake, please see post #31. I invite you to join me in denouncing uncalled-for remarks about Rev. Hagee's physical appearance, which have nothing to do with his theology one way or another.
If Ghandi ‘liked’ Christ so much, he would have believed what Christ said and received him as Savior and Lord.
Completely untrue.
All they need believe to remain non-Catholic is that the Catholic Church is an organization that teaches Biblically unwarranted doctrines.
Fundamentalists believe the same to be true of the Anglican Communion and of the traditional Lutheran Church as well, yet their rejection of these churches as not truly reformed does not usually lead them into such vicious rhetoric.
Do you actually know someone who can pull this off?
I must state again that I simply do not know where Catholics get this idea that they are the number one target of secularists and liberals when it is so obviously Fundamentalist Protestants (especially poor rural white Southerners) who are the number one victims. As Mike Bryan pointed out in his book Chapter and Verse, Catholicism is treated so much better by anti-religious liberals than Fundamentalist Protestantism is.
Do those liberal Hollywood Jews realize that the Catholic Church shares their opposition to creationism? Do they know that the Catholic Diocese of Little Rock joined the ACLU in trying to block the teaching of "creation science" in public schools alongside evolution?
Hagee's obesity has nothing to do with his being wrong about almost everything, just as St. Thomas Aquinas' obesity had nothing to do with his being right about almost everything.
You expect people to buy your opinions so why not...

You have made an excellent point (and a reference to Eastern Orthodoxy would have made it even more clearly), and I must concede it (though you must admit that Lutherans don't seem as paranoid about "illiterate Fundamentalists" as Catholics are). So when are you going to condemn attacks on Rev. Hagee's physical appearance?
Wideawake, has the irony of this situation never struck you? For a thousand years illiterate rural Catholics were prejudiced against those urban, cosmopolitan Jews with their chr*stless "works religion" (even though their own "true religion" came from the older "false" one). And what has happened? In America Catholics find themselves the liberal urban cosmopolitans surrounded by illiterate rural "bigots" who accuse them of a chr*stless works religion (even though their own religion comes from that selfsame older "works religion"). Moreover, there are anti-Vatican conspiracy theories that are the perfect counterparts of all those "Jewish-Freemasonic conspiracy" theories some Catholics still peddle. You see no poetic justice in this whatsoever? I do. It's called middah keneged middah (measure for measure).
Hagee's obesity has nothing to do with his being wrong about almost everything, just as St. Thomas Aquinas' obesity had nothing to do with his being right about almost everything.
Thank you!!!
Southern cuisine is very starchy, with the result that even poor people (and yes, I know that John Hagee isn't poor!) often manifest obesity, hence the common anti-welfare remark "those people sure don't look hungry to me!"
For some reason anti-Zionists seem obsessed with the obesity of Zionists, and of Hagee in particular. If all the stuff I've read about "fat Zionists" is true, I suppose I could lose weight just by switching my support to the Arabs!
You don't want to lose your head over a silly idea like that.
My point was the stress on "Catholicism in particular," not "chr*stianity in general." And I maintain that the caricature of chr*stianity in America is the rural white Fundamentalist Protestant, not the Roman Catholic or Serbian Orthodox or Armenian. A crucifix in urine surely offends Catholics, but I doubt that Catholics were uppermost in the minds of the liberal defenders of such "art."
As for your other point, while logic dictates that chr*stians are chr*stians regardless of their ethnicity, liberals don't seem to think so. Witness that Black Baptists and Hispanic Catholics are treated very differently than their white co-religionists by liberals.
As for my statement on creationism, facts are stubborn things.
Well, you go to those Birchite/Reconstructionist sites and see how obsessed those people are with the size of "Zionists!"
And what I can see he is mostly correct.. Not universally correct but mostly, in my opinion.. America seems to degrading from within by BOTH of them..
