To the degree that WELS preaches plain Scripture, I liked it.
It was what they inferred and read into Scripture and how they wholesale arrogantly and abusively, irrationally, irresponsibly treated a number of missionary families that infuriated me.

Clearly that is unfortunate and NOT what we intend to do when sending out God’s workers to spread to good word of Christ crucified. Like the rest of the world we’re not perfect; conversely we’re sinful beings and as hard as we try to do the right thing we fail as much as the next person. I pray whatever situation that was improved and no souls were put into jeopardy.
I’ve heard we’re “closed-minded”, arrogant, etc many times from others...I can certainly understand that “fellowship” causes difficulty, but ultimately if we don’t agree on the big things do we really agree at all? Believe me the main reason fellowship is not with many other Lutheran churches et al is not for the small minor details, it’s some pretty big stuff that we and others disagree on and as such it is wise to maintain our space. To me it’s no different that two friends, one who is pro-choice and one is pro-life. They get along well, hang out but in the end they don’t believe the same thing and that, ultimately, is a divide which cannot be carried by mere fellowship. You either believe it or you don’t, period. If that makes it difficult, well, then I understand, but look at the teachings of Christ. They are not easy to follow, they seperate mother and daugther, son and father, etc...just as scripture tells us Christ said...
Sorry for the long rant, it just sort of rolled right out of my fingers...
